I had an 08 F150 Supercrew FX4 that I traded in June for a '14 F250. I loved the truck, but when I bought a Whitehawk 33bhbs I realized it was time to upgrade. The f150 towed the 7000+ trailer fine, but I knew that this was in ideal conditions on relatively flat roads. It got 8mpg towing the trailer, not bad. You will have no problems with your trailer. If you go heavier, upgrade. Not worth the risk to your family or others. I listened to the dealer tell me that I'd be fine, then I spoke to people who really know and immediately upgraded.

Didn't know that about the Expedition.
From what I understand the 4.6 and 5.4 are much better with the 6spd.
As far as mpg's and overall performance.

Thanks for all the feedback. Spark plugs seem to be an issue but I am a large bore marine Deisel mechanic so I think I can handle anything other than computer programming. The fun side wants a new truck. The practical side keeps seeing the fuel mileage difference. I WANT to have both vehicles but that ain't gonna happen. I sold my Durango 3years ago because I couldn't afford to feed it. Gonna crunch some numbers tonight and see what we can do and then tomorrow we'll see just how bad the dealer wants to get rid of it and get my Escape. Just in time for the 426 mile trip on Tuesday.

The 6spd trannies that come in these new trucks make all the difference. Sure, the extra hp and tq are key, but those extra gears allow the engine to maintain its "sweet spot" for putting out power efficiently. I went from the F150 4.6, 3.55, 4spd to the EcoBoost 3.73, 6spd and that is night and day. I have even heard that going from the 5.4 to the Eco is a dramatic improvement. So much torque, way down low.

i loved my 06 f150 i had, it towed my 9000lbs 5th wheel just fine, they are great truck just make sure you do your oil changes with 5w20 every 3000 miles (i did mine every 3-5000 kms with kendal semi syn)

issues i had were the common ones
steering shaft (very very simple just the part was about 250 bucks)
rear driveshaft u joint, (20 bucks for the part)
did the spark plugs 3 times before i realized you MUST MUST MUST use the stockers, they redesigned them so they dont get stuck in the head
manifold was leaking when i sold it, i didnt care and neither did my brother in law because he got a 10,000$ truck for 8 grand taxes in a certified with a programmer, tonneau cover 34's on procomp rims and a nice bluetooth deck

other then that and brakes it was a soild truck that never left me stranded i would suggest one in a heart beat

Well I tried to buy it today. We weren't even close on my trade. Over 4k off. On a whim I pulled into another lot on the way home that has a "bargain corner" He had a 99 suburban for less than I was going to use as a down payment. So I bought a beater with a clean interior and I got to keep my Escape which I really liked. I like the idea of an SUV better so I can leave our scuba equipment in it and locked up. Same fuel mileage as the F150. It's ugly but mechanically sound. Driving it 426 miles tomorrow to see if I bought a problem child. It's not going to tow a monster TT but it will tow mine.
