F-250 gas to Ram 2500 gas?
Has anyone moved from a 6.2 gas Ford to a Ram 6.4 gas?
I have a 2017 F-250 XLT CC 4WD that I have been pulling my 28BHBE since 2018. The truck pulls fine and it's a daily driver for me but I'm looking for something newer with a few more amenities but want to stay under $45k so I'll have to settle for a slightly used truck.
I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone that switched to a RAM on the ride quality (unloaded) and overall impression with the Ram. I think the older I get the less I like the ride quality of the solid front axle and rear leaf suspension. I had an older Silverado 2500 before the F-250 and it didn't ride as harsh as the Ford.

Ram 2500 has a solid front axle and coils in the back I believe. Go and test drive one for comparability. My F-250 rides like a Cadillac until I hit a bump, lol. Chevy has IFS and will probably ride the best but prone to premature front end wear. None of them will ride like a half ton unfortunately.

I have 2020 2500 Laramie. Love it. Pulls like a champ. Gas guslar. 10mpg when towing. Always looking for gas station when traveling. All the extra's in the Laraime package are great.

I had a Ram 6.4 but never had a F250 with 6.2. My buddy has a 2017 F250 6.2. He said my Ram was not as smooth as his Ford. I went to a 2024 F250 and the ride and towing performance is substantially better than my Ram. Fuel mileage is a little better in my new F250 but it’s not by much. I am usually at or just under 15 mpg highway as long as I keep it at about 72 mph or less. If I get on a highway where the speed limit is 80 I’m around 14 mpg highway. But the 7.3 gas engine is very impressive in my opinion.

I can't speak to a Ford direct comparison, but I did drive a 3/4T Ram 6.4 CC 4x4. It was my DD as well as my tow mule for a few years until we traded the 28BHBE on a Greyhawk. I don't generally "miss" vehicles, but I do miss that truck sometimes. It was one of the best vehicles I ever owned.
Wife complained incessantly about the ride, but having experienced other HD trucks, most that were leaf-sprung, I found the ride to be pretty compliant. And especially when loaded, dang fine ride when loaded down IMO. Empty ... well, it's still a 3/4T truck, so I can't say it was great. Not bad, but not great. It's a tradeoff IMO to get really high payload numbers. My only regret with my Ram was settling for the 3.73 axle; I should have held out for the 4.10.
Yes, it guzzles fuel. But it never wanted for power (even with a bed filled with gear, towing the fully loaded 28BHBE), or payload (significantly more payload because the gas engine is that much lighter than the diesel; mine had 3,300 lbs of available payload). It also did really well off-road, especially hauling off-road. Loading the bed up with feed or a full water tank made driving up/down the goat trails at the deer lease a stress-free affair. Passenger space was pretty substantial (and mine was not a mega-cab), but I think Ford has the win here. My buddy just got a mega-cab diesel 2500, and there's good space in his back seat, but I think Ford still does better in that department.
Ram really nailed the suspension in that series of HD trucks IMO. On all 4 corners. My dad has an older Chevy in the same configuration my Ram was, and my truck was MUCH easier/better in every way, and it wasn't just age that made the difference. Even down to turning radius; my Ram had a TIGHT turning radius, which came in handy SEVERAL times.
All of that being said, I hear good things about Ford's 7.3 gasser, now that they have some of the kinks worked out.
Both are good trucks IMO, and I would have to take some serious time researching and testing the Ford to determine if it would pull me away from the Ram...

I‘ve had all three, Ford, Ram and GMC.
I enjoyed the ride of the Ram.
I have a GMC Denali diesel 3500HD, plus a Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD 6.6 gas.
That said, I can say the Denali rides and steers far nicer than my Chevrolet, the 6.6 gas motor is very strong.
If any of this information helps, glad to pass it along.

Rams 6.4 is underpowered compared to Ford and Chev.
Ram 6.4 HP 410, TQ 429
Ford 6.6 HP 401 TQ 464
Ford 7.3 HP 430 TQ 475
Chevy 6.6 HP 401 TQ 464
While the two 6.6's have 9 less HP they have more TQ plus they have a 10 sp trans. You just can't beat the Ford 7.3 for towing in the gas segment.
With Stelantis going through money issues I'm not sure I'd buy another Ram. I currently have a 2019 Ram 3500 CTD and it's been very reliable. If I were in the market again I'd 100% opt for a used F250-350 7.3 gas.
I will say though it would be tough to give up my mpg when cruising or towing.
21 mpg empty on the hwy and 11.5-12 mpg towing a 9200 lb TT in the PNW.
Where I camp it's a tie between Ford and Ram.

Have a 2022 ram 2500 6.4, I've had it for 2 years and only put about 24,000 miles on it but it drives fine( I would rather drive it than my Silverado 1500) the only issue I don't like is the turn radius not sure if this is unique too the Ram or all three quarter tons, it also sits very high getting in and out

Agree on the turn radius. I went from a Ram 2500 CCSB to a 2024 F250 same body style except the bed is 10” longer on my F250 and it still turns better than my Ram did. Pulls better too.
