F150 sway control

Just bought f150 with built in sway control. My wdh has built in sway control as well. Is this going to be a problem?

No problem at all. The sway control built into the F150 will attempt to eliminate any sway that it feels. The WDH sway control eliminates or attenuates sway before it begins.

Ideally, if your WDH is setup correctly and you're loaded correctly, the sway control system on the F150 will never engage. If it does engage at any point, you likely do not have your WDH setup correctly, the balance of the weight in your RV correct, or you're towing too much trailer for your tow vehicle.

Having a F-150 with sway control I found you can run into an issue. If you use both, if your trailer starts to sway, use of both will reinforce the sway. I found if you use only one, sway stays controlled.

I've removed the on-trailer sway control and just use the pickups sway control. Less sway than when it was on-trailer only and smoother ending of any sway. I really feel more comfortable now that we are using the truck's control. Less effect by winds and semis.

If you want or need to shut off the truck's sway control, go into the towing setting on the dash and uncheck sway control. Remember, this has to be done every time you restart the truck.

I've never had any trouble with my 2014 F150 and either the old 2012 Skyline Koala (4990 GVWR) or my current 2017 Jayco 23RB (6500 GVWR).

I have a 2017 F150 with Sway Control, also. Does anyone know just how it works? The sway control on my wdh (Eaz-Lift Recurve R6) is via friction, so how does the truck manage it? Does it, for example, apply the trailer brakes a bit? I would think that would be very advantageous if the truck would do something like that automatically to correct sway when it starts to occur.

It automatically applies appropriate right or left rear braking on the truck in response to trailer sway. I leave it turned on and have never seen it engage once. I attribute that to a good hitch dialed in properly and a generous tongue weight for the gross weight.

There are a few people who have reported feeling like the truck was "fighting" the trailer sway control, but from what I can tell that's very rare.

It's my opinion that if your combination is set up well, you won't have sway to worry about and this the systems will have nothing to fight against.

We had a 2014 F150 with max tow options and towed a 27ft (32ft bumper to hitch Rockwood 2702WS travel trailer) the truck had sway control and we used an equalizer WDH and had no issues. This included 4 trips from MA to FL probably 20k miles total towing this setup.

There is no indication in the dash that the sway control has kicked in. From experience, I can tell when it does kick in once in a while, but normally it is so smooth you won't feel it.

F150 Sway Control

Mine has kicked in a couple of times when I experienced a sudden gust of wind from the side. It kicked off the cruise control and a brief message like "Anti-sway Engaged" flashed on the dash screen. Other than those two times, I've never had a problem.

This is exactly what happens. If there is no message, the F150 anti-sway has not been triggered. The system is a little more complicated than manually pushing the brake controller but accomplishes the same thing by applying the trailer brakes while the TV continues to pull trailer to straighten everything out. It also happens much faster than any human can manually apply the brake controller.

There is nothing wrong with using both systems together and no manufacturer recommend disengaging one system or the other. If your WD/anti-sway hitch is set-up properly, there will probably never be enough sway to trigger the F150 system but it will kick in if it detects sway.
