Apparently they are for 2017. The whole super duty line is set to be redone.

I love my Ford trucks but I don't think I will be jumping on one of these the first year they come out. I always tend to buy a model several years into its production so the little bugs can get worked out. I have heard from my service manager that they are seeing some of the '15 aluminum F-150s coming in with paint bonding problems due to the aluminum skin. Might need some more time to get it right.

A lot of probs with the corrosion of the aluminum panels. And Ford will make the Super Duty's aluminum as well. Sikkens has a repair kit for the problem and Ford's just repairing and re-installing panels as of now. TSB only...no recall. Yet.

Probably need some aircraft type paint. While aluminum does not rust, it does corrode very easily once exposed. Especially around salt.

They say they are saving 350# per vehicle in the SD class. That to me is not much for all the effort and I am sure the price is substantial.

Heard Ram was going with Carbon Fiber!! Ha! JK!

I'm not a big fan of the quest to reduce weight in the truck line. Weight can be very helpful in certain situations, as long as it's balanced properly. Right now I'm not convinced the juice is worth the squeeze so to speak. Really expensive and weight savings is not something I care about in a truck.

Edit: I understand payload is a big thing. What I'm saying is they should be more concentrated in upping the GVWR than reducing the base weight, especially when they are advertising tow capabilities of 12K +. You need a solid piece of truck to properly command that much trailer.

It has to do with preparation for future demands on the industry to improve "efficiency" of the HD trucks, emission reductions set already I believe, with CAFE sure to follow. Again, we have the government agencies "designing" things. And their demands don't come cheap.

They need to properly prep the panels with an etch solution, then a good primer. We used car paint alot on aircraft... made no difference. Dodge has aluminum body panels... no paint issues since 2004.
