Ford 150 to pull Eagle HT 284BHOK ?
Hello,
Need to buy truck to tow Eagle HT 284BHOK.
Looking at Ford F150 Ecoboost.
anyone towing with a F150? Advise?

Answers are here. Look at the hitch weight. Ask an expert (not a sales person) about Weight Distributing Hitch, and if it will help you reduce the weight on your truck.

I'd look elsewhere if you are towing in Idaho and the surrounding states. Me and a bunch of others in ID, UT, and WY and CO have issues with the F150 Ecoboosts overheating and many of our trailers are a lot smaller than that. Mine has a GVWR of 5500 lbs and I still have issues.
I'd be looking at an HD truck for a trailer that size unless you are VERY meticulous about what F150 you buy. You will want one that is lower trim and minimal options(think XL or XLT) and preferably with the HD Payload Package. Otherwise, like the others have said, you are gunna be well beyond the payload of the truck. At a bare minimum you will want the max-tow package.
An F150 XLT will be in the 1750-1900 lb payload range depending on options, Lariat will be in the 1600 lb payload range. A Platinum will be 1500 range.

The F150 isn't enough truck for that load. You'll need to go to at least a 3/4 ton. Although the hitch weight is reasonable, loading your truck up and the trailer may come close to your payload. Look on the drivers door to get the payload capacity. Not sure if the EcoBoost is what I'd choose. Maybe the 5.0L Coyote may suit you better. It has a slight advantage as in payload capacity compared to the EcoBoost but lacks in all around tow cap.

Linda - The TT you're looking at maxes out at 10K GVWR and you're typically only 10% (1K) on the bumper/hitch, so an F-150 EB should do just fine. Make sure you get the max tow package if you're going that route. You'll likely be using a weight distribution hitch with that setup.
On a side note: I owned a nice 2015 F-150 EB XLT FX4 w/Max tow. We shopped TT but settled on a Jayco HT 5th wheel. The HT stands for Half Ton - aka "Unicorn" - The magic truck with no options, single cab, gas 2WD and long bed with tow package. We ended up buying an F-250 with a 3K payload to have enough TV for the rig.

The Eagle HT 284BHOK is a 35ft long bunk-house TT with a 10,000lb GVWR....., and once loaded for a family IMO would not be a good match for a 1/2 ton pickup.
The published (web site, brochures, etc.) UVW is 8,135lbs....., but you will find the actual "as-shipped" UVW (yellow sticker) will come in at around 8,600lbs, especially with the 2nd A/C you mentioned in a recent thread.
Recommended "loaded" tongue weight range for a heavy/long TT is 13% to 15% of TT's scaled loaded gross weight, with most weighing in closure to 15% which enhances TV handling under less than ideal towing conditions.
Hypothetical loaded condition: (8,600lb UVW) + (700lbs cargo) + (no fluids) = (9,300lbs gross weight) which = 1,209lbs to 1,395lbs (13% to 15%) loaded tongue weight range.
Loaded to 10,000lb GVWR (easy to do 'with' fluids): 1,300lb to 1,500lb loaded tongue weight range.
Just food for thought...

I have an F150 Ecoboost. Amazing truck, the Ecoboost will have no problems.
That said, the rest of the truck is undersized for that trailer. My trailer grosses 8200lbs and I'm quite comfortable with my setup. Your trailer grosses 10,000lbs. That's too much for the F150, you will never get your setup within your payload ratings.
Go with an F250 7.3L gas truck, or an F350 6.7L diesel. You will not be disappointed.

Wait till you hit a 45 mph crosswind in that maxed out liteweight f150. Bet those engineers are proud of the numbers they came up with using their slide rule.

Looked up my payload for my f150. It was a 2018 3.5 4x4 crew cab short bed xlt sport, with tow package, listed payload was 1730, add a couple humans, tongue weight of trailer, stuff in the bed of truck and you’re either at or over max payload. And realistically any thing over 30’ should be 3/4 or 1 ton territory…. Just my opinion and Ymmv.

Yeah my 2014 Lariat, Screw, 6.5’ bed is 1560 lbs payload. Basically anything but the most lightly optioned xlt is under 1800 lbs.

We went through all of this as new trailer owners. I really wanted a 150 to work. It just doesn't.
So we have a 250, and it's fine. We can't go bigger than our 11,000# trailer, though, but we don't want to.
If you get a 250, you might as well get a 350- just a little more money, and a little added capacity, but that will give you just a little more peace of mind.

FWIW, I've towed our 284BHOK with a Ram 1500 for more than 10,000 miles since January 2019, with no problems. But I would recommend a Hensley or ProPride hitch to tame any sway problems.

True. We wanted a 150 really bad, but when you start crunching the numbers, it's Super Duty all the way. turns out we love our F250 and would not have felt safe towing with a 150.
I will say that if all we ever did was go to the county park a few weekends a year, a 150 would make more sense. But we go out for months at a time, and need a serious truck that won't be pushed around by the trailer.

F-150 towing a HT
I have a 29.5BHOK(it is a 5th wheel), the stats on the trailer says it could max out at 16k fully loaded. I’m sorry, but there is no way that F-150 could manage that configuration up and down hills!!!
I use a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with the Duramax-Allison combo.

My experience with the F150 Ecoboost 4x4 is that it is an excellent towed vehicle, but too light to tow a serious RV trailer.
