Ford 7.3 Gasser Problems

How it this new engine working out for those that have it?

I have been keeping an eye on the reviews as a possible upgrade. I knew about the plug wire issue, but was surprised to hear of others as reported here: https://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forum...oblems-abound/

I am curious if and hoping these issues are isolated.

My company has bought a bunch of F450's with the 7.3 in them. As far as I know we have not had any issues with the plug wires. However, we've had 2 or 3 of them locally that had transmission issues, replacement right around the 25k mark. Mine has 28k on it and still going. Our mechanic says mine is just starting to have the same trans issue and its just a matter of time before it pukes.

That is disappointing to hear.

Will need to wait a couple more model years for the bugs to be worked out.

Check out some of the Ford truck forums about 7.3L powertrain issues and they seem few and far between. Hard shifting transmissions early on seemed to be an issue. Remember there are 1000's of these on the road today with plenty of happy owners. If I get what I want out of my '17 F-250, I'll be ordering one soon.

I don’t recall what they’re using in the F53 Class A chassis, but the ‘C’ chassis is still using the 6 speed TorqShift transmission. From what I have come to understand, its a stout transmission. Are the work trucks outfitted with a 8 or 10 speed?

Anyone experiencing valvetrain issues (lifter, spring or valve failures)?

I had a broken valve spring diagnosed at about 10000 miles. I had a couple codes earlier, where they replaced a coil and spark plug at 3-4k miles. I think the spring was the issue the whole time. They replaced the engine, saying they were concerned of contamination and future problems.

Sorry to hear that it is true as another issue. Hopefully the new engine serves you well.

I have the 7.3 V8 in my 2021 Entegra 26D. Has about 2500 miles on it. No issues thus far. Did purchase a couple plug wires just in case, not sure if that problem applies to E450. Getting 10-11 MPG. Very happy with it.

I have the 7.3 in my Greyhawk and we just turned over 10k miles. No issues (touch wood). I've changed the oil twice now and it hasn't used a drop.

I bought an F250 Lariat Super Duty August of 2020 with the 7.3 engine and 10 speed transmission. Both the engine and transmission are perfect. Amazing power at all rpm's. I tow about 7500~8000 pounds. There is a transmission issue with the 10 speed concerning a bad bearing. Ford found the problem and is correcting it. All transmissions built after early August 2020 are good. My transmission was built after the bearing problem was identified so I'm in the clear. I looked at Ford, Silverado and RAM when I was shopping. I like two tone paint jobs and was very interested in the 10 speed transmission. I read that the same transmission is used in the 7.3 and the diesel. GM didn't offer two tone paint but RAM did. I use the heck out of the keypad on the door on my F250. Ford is the only one to offer it. GM and RAM didn't offer the 10 speed. I really liked the looks of the F250, the RAM looked pretty decent too, and I'll be polite and not comment on the Silverado grill. The tailgate step is awesome, I use it all the time. Another thing I liked on the F250 was the outside mirrors. I never cared for the design RAM uses and I'm not sure but I think they are manual extending only. The GM mirrors look straight out of eBay.
I couldn't be happier with the truck. 13,500 miles on it so far and not a glitch. I highly recommend the Super Duty.
