Ford not ready to surrender it's truck Domination!

Ford announced that the 2018 Ford Super Duty will be the most powerful heavy-duty pickup truck ever, with best-in-class horsepower, torque and towing capacity, from a newly upgraded 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine.

The F-450 4x2 Crew Cab dual-rear-wheel pickup joins the Super Duty lineup for 2018, with 34,000-pound towing capacity.

Thats a some kick a$$ numbers. Ford has no intentions on giving up it's truck domination.

The F150 is also the 2018 Motor Trend Truck of The Year!

they lost me when they went to a 6 with a turbo... I love my 6.2L v8 with 420hp and 460fl/lb torque.. all day long.. thank you.. if ferd still put that in their half ton I would buy one... but they went the way of a 6cyl... to bad the raptor had a great 6.2L motor.. put a turbo on the 6.2L and now you are talkin'...

my 6.2L gets the same mileage as my neighbors 3.5 turbo... so no savings there... and no turbo problems for me... him not so much...

This will come in very handy when you have the need to pull a couple of empty school buses with you.

Diesel

I'm glad that Ford has finally found a Diesel engine that will be dependable ( fingers crossed ) after the several failed attempts

It's rumored the new Super Duty will have over 1000 lb.-ft. of torque. Remember getting a Ford newsletter on it.

You can easily achieve 1000+ ft lbs of torque with the current 6.7L with very basic mods, some of which are warranty friendly if purchased and installed through the dealer.

Nonetheless, badass.

You sound like a spokes person for Ford Motor company. Really, Truck of the year from MT!! That is nothing more than a marketing thing that pretty much indicates that Ford paid more than GM or Dodge would cough up.

Each year more and more hype about torque, payload, and overall towing capacity. Unless you plan on pulling the QE!! all of this is absolutely unnecessary to 99.9% of us.

You make it sound like Ford built this truck only to pull a TT. I don't think this is what they had in mind for this truck, its for the guy pulling a flatbed with a dozer, backhoe, or other heavy equipment. Its funny every time one auto company out does another the haters make such a big deal out of nothing.

After some revisions to it. I got rid of my '11 F350 as it was an early build and known for dropping exhaust valves and failed turbos. Didn't want to chance losing the engine which would have taken 90% of the truck value with it.

If I were looking to buy a diesel Super Duty, I would go for a 2016. Last year of that gorgeous body style, last year before the new aluminum, great truck for a good price. I also have recently learned that the 450 has a much better turning radius than the 350 due to the wide stance front axle. The 450 has a higher GCWR but sometimes actually a lower payload than the 350. Rear springs are the same. Probably some upgraded cooling and brakes in the 450 too.

At some point you just need to get a class 8 Truck and lose one of the drive axles. Second hand class 8 with sleeper and fairly low miles is cheaper than a new ford. Although I like the capacities and like my superduty, at some point they need to quit making 1/2 tons try to be 1 tons and 1 tons try to be class 8’s.

It's called the "Fatboy" axle. The 450's have what they call a superstack rear spring. Depending on year, the 450's can have up to 3 extra leafs. And each individual leaf is thicker than the 350 leafs. We had 2 450 leaf springs delivered about a month ago on a pallet. Forklift was necessary.

My local Ford dealer has a new leftover 2016 F350 XLT crew cab DRW 4x4 diesel sitting out in front of the dealership. I'm a Dodge guy, but I have to admit that it is just a beautiful truck and I also have to admit that I stopped by a few Sundays ago when nobody was around to take a look at it. To top it off, they have it advertised at a very attractive price. If I didn't have such a strong desire to stay debt free right now, I'd have to consider it.

I always had an uneasy feeling about my '12 as well. Although mine was produced after the exhaust valve problem I still had the ceramic turbo bearings, plastic oil pan and weak radiator. Since we're only towing 3-4 times a year I traded it in for a '17 F-250 gas. I do miss my 6.7l diesel and there's a big part of me that regrets trading it in as it never missed a beat. What I don't miss is the maintenance on it. The dealer sold my '12 the same day I bought the '17. In the next 4-5 years I will own another diesel as I hope they can figure out how to run these things without all the exhaust crap.

They have. My solution cost me $1200 and an afternoon in the garage [emoji6]

Absolutely. I pull heavy regularly for work. My 550 hp/1280 lb/ft tq comes in very handy when I have 25000# behind me, doesn’t matter so much with an 11000# 5th wheel.

Absolutely. I’m just shy of 1300 peak torque. But I still want a new one!

Yeah I was actually planning to do the DPF delete in the '12 last year but never got around to it. Once we decided on possibly getting a new truck I thought it best to leave it stock for a dealer trade in. I am hoping in the next 4-5 years they can figure out how to meet emissions w/o all the crap straight from the factory was my point.

We take our trailer to the SW in the winter so I couldn't risk that it would fail while we were away. It had 80kmi on it when traded. I could have changed the heads/turbo/rad but it had other issues as well. If I wasn't going far from home then getting it home and doing an engine swap in the garage wouldn't have been an issue but that doesn't work when it's a few thousand miles from home.

I had my '11 deleted for about 8 months. It made very little difference in fuel mileage but I didn't have to put DEF in. It also didn't like the non-stock tunes (H&S) when in the mountains (elevated ECT & EGT).
