FW hitch after trip on rough roads

I've got a Curt A16, and smallish fiver. Under 10K loaded. Just did a trip over hwy 69 in Eastern OK, and it was awful. Not 1st world stuff that's for sure. Now since this trip, I've got lots of noise in the hitch and can feel slop that wasn't previously there. I'd never read of rough roads hurting a hitch and wanted to see if others have experienced this.

Nope, have not had that happen.

Have had my Reese hitch for 7 years and it still makes the same noises it did when I bought it.

After thinking about this more , I've got a theory. It's seemed at it's worst on my drive home. I'd let my frsh water tank drain on the return leg. By doing this I made the front of the trailer lighter. On previous trips, I've always had quite a bit of water in the tank.

In summary... empty fresh water tank, few gallons in black, and bikes on the rear. All of this coupled with a slightly nose high attitude led to a not so great ride. I need more pin wieght.

Looked closely at the hitch again, and the back jaw seeems tweaked somehow. The place that installed is going to replace the head. They agreed, something didn't seem right. I'll report back next time I tow to see if it's any better.

The back jaw sits up higher than the front, and tbere's lots of play in the jaws when closed. Nothing dangerous, but plenty of play.

First pic it's kinda obvious they are not closed all the way. Wonder if there is an adjustment for that or if something got bent.

No adjustments. Guy at shop said he's never seen anything like it. He's thinking it's a manufacturing errer. A spring or bushing that broke or was never installed.
