Looking at the owner's manual for my new GMC truck with the integrated brake controller it indicates the following for the controller setup:
"1. Drive the vehicle with trailer attached on a level road surface...and fully apply the
Manual Trailer Brake Apply Lever.
2.Adjust the trailer gain, using the trailer gain adjustment buttons, to just below the point of wheel lock-up, indicated by trailer wheel squeal or tire smoke when a trailer wheel locks."
It seems a little drastic to smoke the trailer tires to find the optimum gain setting. Anybody else use this method? Anybody suggest another method that has worked for them?
