Gmc 2500hd

Hey Everyone
First post! Been lurking on here since I bought my Whitehawk 28DSBH last summer. Love the trailer

Was pulling with a '14 Chevy half ton. 5.3 6 speed with the 3.42 rear end but wanted a little more power an stability

Got a good deal over the weekend on a used 2013 GMC 2500HD crew cab long bed 6.0 gasser with a 3.73 rear end. I wanted to hold out for one with the 4.10 gear but didn't want to let the truck go. The tow rating is a measly 9300# (same as the half ton somehow).

Just looking to see if anyone else on here has a similar truck and how she'll hold up to the TT. I know it will definitely be better/ safer just Haven't gotten the chance to pull with it yet (it's at dealer having Bedliner sprayed)

Any input would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, kskinn.
I have a 2014 JayFlight 24fsb that I pulled with an 05 GMC 1/2 ton, 5.3, 3.42. I felt like I needed more ponies under the hood and went with an 06 Chevy Silverado 2500HD CCSB 6.0 4x4 with a 4.10. I've only had it a few months, but it's as different as night and day. Everything I've read about the 6.0 gas has been positive except for the exhaust manifold bolts breaking. Best purchase in a tow vehicle I've made. Happy Camping to ya!

Congrats on the new tow beast!!!

Even though it is about the same tow rating as the 1500, the 6.0 definitely does a great job, and just about points at every gas station as you roll by as well!!! Lol It is a thirsty motor, but plenty of power, especially with the 6spd trans.

The big advantage you now have over the 1500 is the payload capacity of the truck!!! Not sure of the exact combo you had, but the 1500 was probably in the range of 1700lbs or so for the payload. I would guess your new truck is around 2500lbs or so per the yellow sticker in the drivers door jamb.

We have been happy with our '13 Chevy. It is now earning it's keep with our new trailer! Our Jayco is about 2k lbs heavier than the last trailer. Does a good job!

I wonder if the fleet chevy's are detuned somewhat. The one we drive at work is a dog compared to my friends, both 3500's both 2014's both 3.73's. Hmmmmm.

I don't understand how the 1500 and 2500 tow ratings are kept being said they are close. For my situation, the 1500 was rated for 7200 lbs, but the 2500 is rated over 9000. I guess the difference is in the axle ratio and tranny.

Not sure what year your truck is, but the newer 1500's w/ the 6spd trans have a higher tow rating. With the 5.3/6spd/3.42 about 9500lbs +/- depending on the cab and bed combo. With the 6.2/6spd/3.73 over 10k lbs! The issue with the 1500 trucks is they will run out of payload before towing those weights in a tt.
