So, all hooked up with leveling bars on, I am about 100 lbs over the rear axle limit on the TV. How big a deal is that if I camp about 4 times a year, longest trip being about 6 hours?
I am not over the total weight on TV or TT or combined weight

It's a legal debate nothing else. Don't you think there's is a safety margin in any component of the suspension? They just set a overall limit, but the breaking point might be double of that. I'm some times 300 lbs. over depends on what I like to take.
Be sure the tires can handle the job and most standard equipment does.
Expect a lengthy debate on this forum.......

I know I wouldn't worry about it.

But then, your talking to a guy who used an old rusty F150 to bring home an entire yard of wet concrete from the batch plant for a home project. (4000 lbs.)

Thanks! I figured there must be some margin in there. they would not set the weight at the exact amount of what would break it. I am new to this and don't know what the "allowable differences" are yet.

Keep in mind you're losing pounds every time you burn a gallon of gas. And if you're towing, you're burning a gallon of gas every 8-10 minutes more then likely. Pounds peel off pretty quick.

How is your front axle weight?

I wouldn't loose any sleep over 100 lbs, although maybe I'd do my best to move heavy items in the truck forward as much as possible and heavy items in the trailer back as much as possible.

Nothing I'd sweat over. I ran my 1/2 ton at about 150# overweight for thousands of miles before I finally upgraded to a 3/4 ton

Thank you all for chiming in! I love this forum!

my front axle has room for more weight on it, so it is ok.
good reminder about burning gas and losing weight as I go.

Seriously, thank each of you for taking the time to reply!

What I was getting at with the axle weights was if your front axle had enough weight on it, not if it had too much.

Sounds like you've got your weights dialled in fairly well.

I doubt 100lbs is going to make any difference on the performance of your truck.

That's good to hear. I've done this wrong before, so I'm extra sensitive to this issue and I feel it doesn't get talked about nearly enough.

I agree. I did a lot of reading about the hitch and how to adjust it, etc. When I went to the dealer to have them set the hitch, and started talking with them about measuring the front wheel well height and keeping that the same, the guy looked like he had no idea what I was talking about. he literally said, "looks level to me". Well I had measured the front before they set the hitch and knew it was quite a bit higher after they hooked it up. I left and took it to another dealer who understood measuring that and recorded the distances on the invoice.
I have been surprised by the incompetence of some of the people at the dealerships. If I can learn it by reading manuals and watching youtube videos, surely the dealership repair employees should know what they are doing. Seems you have to do a lot of your own homework on all this.

There are some good ones out there, but generally speaking most dealerships have morons in both the sales and service departments. I watched them set up my first hitch and it was a complete joke.

How can you be 100lbs over rear axle with a 19RD? That's a pretty light tongue weight. Are you using a weight distributing hitch? What is the tow vehicle?

yep, using a weight distribution hitch. Towing with an Avalanche. rear axle limit is 3800, I am at 3900
(according to the CAT scales at a truck stop)

I'm an inherently distrusting person. I don't trust the guy selling me a truck or a trailer to know much more than the price. Actually sometimes they don't even know that.

sadly, they have proved to be untrustworthy.

The "Integrity" is down the drain through selfishness'.......the leaders in this world showed their samples and teach their curriculum to the peasants.
Oh there is still hope even for sales people...........ah also for manufacturing processes.
