gvwr = different class drivers licence!

I might be stating the obvious but it was news to me....
If your tt or 5er is gvwr is over 10,000 lbs you require a class 3 licence in Manitoba. I have looked at a few other provinces and this seems to be consistent across the country. A class 3 requires a medical, written and drivers test. This was not a huge deal for me as I have a class 4 so already have the medical which to me would be the biggest pain...

Of course the dealer never mentioned this to me when purchasing. however the odd thing is that when I registered it with MPI I gave the gvwr and nothing came up either. you think there would be some sort of a disclaimer.

Class 5 is all that is required in Alberta. No requirement to stop at inspection/ weigh scales either. We always welcome relocating Manitobans

Interesting... As far as I know, unless you are towing the RV for commercial reasons here in the states, there is no special licensing requirements unless you are towing doubles. Although CDL (medical) requirements have recently gotten tougher, I can pull or drive any type of RV with just a regular old drivers license...

Numerous states have special requirements/license.

In California there is a non-commercial class A license required when you reach certain GVWR.

I agree...in Alberta it has to be a triple axle trailer for class 3. It should be only for a come comercial use. Someone could technically have a longer and actual loaded heavier trailer and not require cause there gvwr is 100lbs lighter than mine!

In Sask. if over 10,000 lbs you need a class RV lic. and if you have air brakes you need an air brake endorsement. No medicals on either that I am aware of.

In Sask Your max trailer gvwr is 4600lbs with a class 5.
So I would have been fine in Sask and Alberta! Hopefully Manitoba follows suit one of these days...

NYS is R endorsement for class 5 license if you are over 26,001 GVWR total or over 40ft. A class A or B CDL superceeds this endorsement which I have a B with air CDL. PITA to get and maintain a CDL today, but I get a discount on ins so I keep it.

R endorsement is obtained through a road test in your RV or TV and trailer setup. No written test.

As long as you are leagal within the state you hold your license you are covered.

CDL's are now federal.
