I'm wondering how it's supposed to determine the tongue weight.

I seriously looking at ordering one to see if it actually does as advertised. Being Amazon Prime, I can always return it.

Okay, I got the app. I put my cellphone on the ground, and drove my truck over it. Problem is, with the truck on top of the cellphone, I can't see the screen.

Did you put the cell phone on the ground face down? That could be why you couldn't read it.

I think 20 bucks at a scale is a better use of $$ and more accurate.

I still do not understand how a phone app can weight a trailer? To get the weight don't you have to some kind of downward pressure?

It looks like a “puck” that has a load cell and talks to your phone via BlueTooth. I guess if you want all your weights you do it one tire at a time, 3 times for a bumper pull..
Might be handy if you like to weigh before each trip but I haven’t spent anywhere near $100 at the CAT Scale yet.

It has nothing to do with weight. They use the tow vehicle engine and transmission sensors read through a unit plugged into the OBD port and then use Bluetooth to communicate with your smartphone. The app compares your TV readings against the company's 'map' to determine (IMO, estimate) weights.
I believe they use changes in the TV angles, hitched and not hitched, to determine the tongue weight.

and read answers to the questions.

Interesting, I just looked at the pic. Now that I’ve read your post I admit it does look like an OBD2 adapter. Wonder how accurate it is.

If you watched the videos, you would see it plugs into the OBD2 port.

Technocracy is truly amazing. "What'll they think of next?", is what comes to mind, after "Huh?" and "Whaaaaatttttt???"
How 'bout somebody get it, write down what it shows for your weights, and then go through the CAT scale and report to the rest of us how the numbers compare? Hard to believe nobody's done that yet, so I expect someone has. I'd volunteer, but it sounds like a lot of trouble.
Update - just checked at their website and looked at the video showing use of the device and app with an F350 to estimate the weight and then going through the CAT Scale and the weight difference was only 38 lbs. He also stated that they generally see + or - 5% in their tests.
So, somebody please still go do the above comparison and report back in to the rest of us, but sounds like the company has done comparisons with actual CAT scale weights.

I've emailed them with some questions.
Since I already own a Sherwood TW scale and have made multiple trips over the CAT scales I do not "need" this product.....but it does intrigue me.
I've asked if in my particular case with such an imbalance of TV capability versus our actual trailer weight and minimal TW if that it could possibly impact accuracy. If they're confident enough in their accuracy then I may just take them up on the challenge

I've ordered one and it should arrive today. I have weights from a scale at the county inert materials dump (5430lbs) for my 2016 F-150. Right now I'll be using that weight to see how close this comes. A trip to a CAT scale will be at some point down the line.
I'll post in the next few days what I find.

Here's the patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/US9290185B2/en
I don't know whether they have some extra electronics in the module or whether they've managed to get it all from OBD PIDs. There is a ton of data streaming from the OBD port but unless one has doc's that give them what's what I don't see how they'd find what they need. I made up a CAN bus sniffer and in about 5minutes logged a few megabytes of data off my Chev. The only code I isolated while I was playing with it was the door lock/unlock

Here's a good explanation from the man that developed it.
From a pure engineering standpoint it seems solid....but in real World application I'm not 100% convinced yet.
I really want this to work, I think it would be a nice tool to have.
So far I use Levelmate Pro for leveling and Tank check for propane, so I embrace technology.
