Help Check My Math! - WhiteHawk 25BHS + F150 TV

Hi Everyone, looking for help and guidance

2015 Ford F150 w/ 3.5 EB and Max Tow Package
Looking at Whitehawk 25BHS

Tow Vehicle:
GVWR 7000#
GCVWR 16,100#
Curb Weight 4925#
(I'm led to believe curb weight includes a full tank of fuel, can anyone confirm?)

TT:
GVWR 7250#
Dry Weight 5745#
"sticker weight" 6005# (on inside of door)

I've calculated this several different ways, I think I should be good, but want to make sure there is nothing I'm missing here.

Thanks in advance! I plan on weighing the Tow Vehicle this week when I have time. Have not purchased the trailer yet

I'm no expert, but it looks to me like that trailer will have a tongue weight around 970 lbs (12% of loaded trailer weight + 100 lbs for the WDH).

Assuming (big assumption) the curb weight is correct, that leaves you nearly 1000 lbs of headroom on payload, which is basically the people in the truck and whatever they are carrying with them in the truck.

On paper it looks like you should be well within the capabilities of the truck to me.

thanks ecksdude - couldn't find the curb weight in the owner's manual, so I got it off Ford's website.

If you want to be certain on the curb weight find a CAT scale close to you and run the truck over it with just yourself and a full tank of fuel. Subtract that from the 7000 GVWR and you've got accurate payload for your specific truck. The cargo loading sticker on the drivers door should also be fairly accurate for your specific truck as well if you aren't able to run it over a scale.

I would think your curb weight would be a fair bit higher than 4925lbs. I would guess that you will weight in around 5500lbs +/- depending on the trim level of your truck.
Is it a crew cab? long box, short box?

All that being said the 25BHS is probably just fine unless you have 3 or 4 heavy passengers along for the ride or a box full of firewood.

Let us know what your truck weighs in at. I have been curious what the payload is in the new aluminium bodied F150's.

Yah, went to the dump yesterday morning and their scales showed 5240 with a full tank of fuel (not including me).

The truck does have the 36 Gallon Gas Tank option so I'm sure that adds a little extra, along with some of the other options. It is a crew cab with short bed, 4WD, max tow package, 3.5 Ecoboost

So, I think I should be good here. Thanks everyone for help

(there is a max payload package that can be ordered with the F150, but in scouring all inventory at all ford dealers in my area, this is not something that any dealers actually order. Guess they feel like it doesn't add any value to the truck... I didn't want to wait on a special order, and they don't "deal" nearly as much on special order inventory, so I bought off the lot)

Anyway, it increases payload to 3200 lbs. It adds:

3.73 axle
heavy duty springs, tires, wheels.
3.5 Ecoboost (if not already equipped)

Also, there is a package for the 2.7 Ecoboost that increases payload to 2200 pounds. I find that package more interesting, because all it adds is a 3.73 rear axle and a larger gearset. Nothing with the suspension.


So I'm thinking the payload on my truck has almost everything to do with the longevity / strain on the differential. Wonder if that could be modded down the road? (easily, that is)

You'll be almost at your total... I have a Sierra with similar ratings and similar trailer and when loaded up for a weekend I come in right about 14,500 (my dry weight is 6300 and loaded I was 7k with water)...amazing how the people and 'junk' you put in the back of the truck all add up. Definitely get loaded up and hit the scales to know for sure (most times its under $10.00 to get weighed.)

Drive slow and be safe - our half ton trucks are not meant to go 75-80 while towing these kinds of weights....and its not the pulling that matters, it the sudden stops

Payload is the concern with F150's. The Max Payload Package you are talking about is the "best in class payload" advertised in the Ford brochures, but you can't order the Max Payload Package in 2015. The Max Tow package adds about 400 lbs to payload and the Max Payload adds an additional 300 pounds to payload which brings the new F150's into 3/4 ton range. If you could get the Max Payload Package on a 2015 F150 it would give you more payload than an F250 with the 6.7 Diesel if they were both 4X4 Crew Cabs. I started looking this spring to order a new F150 with Max Payload and a 5.0L but they are not available in Canada and I have read on the Ford Forums that the HD Payload package is not available for 2015. The information that I received was that the Ecoboost still had the 3.55 rear end whereas the 5.0 got the 3.73 and there were additional HD front sway bar and different axles and wheels in the HD Payload Package. Apparently it is cost prohibitive to upgrade to HD Payload after purchase. All the advertising lists the maximums with trucks equipped with the Max Tow and HD Payload yet the trucks they are selling off the lot are nowhere near those capabilities.

Weight of all passengers and cargo in the truck and the weight of the RV as it pulls out of the driveway fully loaded and ready to go camping.. DRY WEIGHTS mean NOTHING.. as you will never tow the RV like that except maybe the day you bring it home from the dealer..

1760lbs is pretty respectable payload for a 1/2 ton.
Even if you load the trailer up to its 7250 GVWR your tongue weight will still be below 1000lbs. Your truck should handle that fine with your available payload.

That explains why I couldn't find a max payload, thanks for the info.

Still, it's interesting that the 2.7 Ecoboost payload upgrade (to 2200 pounds) only changes out the rear end. That's it.

Which, leads me to believe, the ratings for 1800 pounds are not about safety so much as they are about wear on the rear axle.

I was going off the gross of the trailer at 7250, so not sure what you mean
