Hitch pin turns

Howdy everyone! Had a customer come in today and asked me about something I've never heard of. He says his hitch pin turns in the receiver and distorts the hairpin clip. He also said the angled end of the pin is rubbing away at the hitch work right at the receiver. He travels the east coast for work pulling a trailer he works out of. He claims it's so bad, when he unhitches from the truck, he literally has to use a hammer and screwdriver to get the hairpin clip off because it's jammed up against the hitch work. He's bought new pins with the same result. Anyone run in to this?

It sounds to me that either the hole on the receiver is worn, or on the hitch itself, or both. If he's driven a lot of miles with the same set up, it might be "chucking" enough to jam it up. Just guessing.

Or a 1/2" pin in a 5/8" hole...

There’s a lot possibilities and unknowns. Questions to ask such as is this a WDH? Does the shank have a very loose fit in the receiver? Is this a 3 or 2 1/2 in. receiver with a reducer? Are they using the correct size pin? Could the trailer be over or improperly loaded? Towing on poor road conditions or even off road at times? A combination of more a than few of the above?
