Ive heard that you cannot tow a 5th wheel HT trailer with a 3/4 ton pick up!! is this a true statement? And if yes, why?

Don't know if it is true or not, but I have seen it done many, many times.

I would say it is hearsay. HT's are just lighter weight, and with a lower profile so a 1/2 ton truck can tow it, not necessary should tow it.

Pin may ride too high if hooked to a 3/4 and it may not be able to be lowered enough. That could throw too much weight on the rear axle. That would be the only reason I can see.

Blanket statement that needs to be addressed with specific model camper and truck.

For the most part I see no reason why a 3/4 ton truck couldn't be used with any HT 5th wheel out there.

My F250 bed sits lower in the bed than the new F150 I have.

True, but many 250/2500s sit even higher than the newer 150/1500s. That was just my wag as to why someone would even make that comment, but I have seen a lot more chatter about axle flips lately.

I was just thinking about the Transporters. I believe all the guys who tow 5th wheels are using 1 ton trucks. I would think if there is a truck limitation, it would limit who can transport the HT's, and no one would be getting them.

Not really. Lots of 250/2500 SRW also towing units. There was such a need for drivers that they are matching units to available trucks. Indiana even dropped the need for a CDLs to transport units.

I'm going to just go out on a limb here and say that you can tow a HT 5th wheel with a 3/4 ton truck, if you can't, it's the exception, not the rule. I just see no cases where you can't.

I tow my HT with my 1 ton. Whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. Maybe certain brand trucks sit higher but my 2013 F350 tows it beautifully.

You might need to watch your weights a bit more if towing a fifth wheel with a 250/2500. I imagine it would limit your ability to carry passengers and cargo in the truck as the weight limits on the truck are less than a 1 ton. Other than that i cant see any reason why you wouldnt do it if you can keep it within the figures

30.5 BHLT dry 9600 towed by a F250 super duty (with air bags) and not an issue one even in winds or mountains. Real world use no speculations .....
The HT is advertised as light weight half ton tow-able

Why can't a 5w hitch be adjusted to accommodate the height? 5w hitch and pin box have adjustments.

"Half Ton", designed to be towed by todays half ton pick up trucks. Lighter and lower in profile.

I would be interested to know where you heard this and what the reason was for the statement.

I would much sooner say you cannot tow it with many half tons, then I would with 3/4 tons....

I pull my 2015 Eagle HT 29.5 BHDS with a Ram 3500 and I couldn't imagine pulling it with a half ton truck.
