Could it be a switch for an aftermarket security system?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have tested some of the ideas. It does not control the power to the cigarette lighter or the 12v plug-in higher on the dash. Plugged in misc electronic device, flipped switch, did not shut off. Not a self destruct switch Crabman, I woulda been toast a long time ago many times as I've tested it. Does not change the horn(s) although that would be sweet. Not driver eject(tested while parked just in case) not for snow plow either. No signs of snow plow being hooked up on front frame, and I hope not or my tranny is twice as old as the mileage(I used to push snow for a company) Not a security system either truck has factory one already. Ignoring the FORD wise cracks.....and as to FPMIII there is a push-to-pop-out ashtray under the switch but of course to remove it you have to take the dashboard apart on these models to get to 2 screws. I can see a small gauge black double wire(?technical term?) w/white stripes coming from it when looking through the seam by the ashtray. Wondered if it it might control the sound from the factory dvd player allowing the sound to be played through the surround sound and subwoofer not just through the I.R. Headsets but not the case. Although while playing the radio while testing it did change the sound of the music like it took away some treble/high end so it is getting power and doing something. Thanks for all the suggestions. Got me thinking more outside the box. Now I have to research how to remove woodgrain dash panel without breaking. If you think of anything else, slap it on here. I'll keep checking.

I realize that this isn't an answer to your question but I have to make a comment. Obviously you have a pretty sweet truck based on the fancy woodgrain inserts on the dash, so what kind of numbskull would put a switch like that prominently smack dab in the middle of it? Most auto parts stores have half a wall full of every type of switch imaginable, many that look almost OEM.

I had an extra switch on my last Dodge (98) and it was for power extension mirrors that were no longer on the truck. It seems the first owner traded for a new truck with the same body and wanted to switch his nice towing mirrors.

My thoughts exactly on that janky little $.99 switch. Whether I find out what it does or not I may remove and put in something nicer although it is discreet since it's small, kinda gets lost in big scheme of things. I may just grab the wire and pull and see if something moves, scientific way of doing things. Could have been power to former brake controller but I doubt it since it came from factory with tow package and right under dash is OEM plug for power/brake wires. Also there are no holes in dash panels from a former brake controller but could have mounted like mine, lower using existing dash trim screw. I couldn't bring myself to screw holes in the dash. It has fog lamps but that is factory switch controlled. Mirrors could be a possibility if the owner swapped them out fully. Ones on now are OEM power mirrors with built in turn signals and defrost. Already has power rear sliding glass, moonroof, heated seats, basically a King Ranch minus the Castano leather just regular leather. Thanks again for all the suggestions never thought I would get such a response. I'll do some more exploring/investigating once I'm done installing the dual cams on my Reese WD and TT.

Try searching on YouTube for how to disassemble your dash. A lot of guys update their stereos and you can find the easy way to get the dash apart.
