Is this as good a deal as it seems?

We are looking for a truck to pull our camper in the summer and to use around town (80 tow, 20 town) only to the tune of 5 to 10 K annually. Up until today I was pretty much settled on a 6 or 8.1 gasser. However, I just looked at a 2005 duramax, senior owned ( he was also a truck driver all his life) so the unit is mint, run only on synthetic oil. 240,000 km (144,000 miles), 90% hwy, loaded with leather, Bose, DVD, power everything and he will sell it for $16,500 Canadian. My only concern is that I am tall and have to lean the seat way back so my head doesn't touch the ceiling (it has a sunroof which drops the ceiling height). Two ?'s: Is this as good a deal as it seems? And can you lower the seats some other way?

It sounds like a great deal, half of what I paid for my 08 cummins diesel that I just bought a month ago. I had a friend who had the seat lower in his F350. He had it done at a custom car shop, He also had a stereo installed and I think they charged him an additional $250, he said the seat lowering was normally $500 I think. I love my 04 D-max and that price is right in the Ball park for Canada. IF they are power seats you can adjust them down as well..

Turned out the 2005 duramax driver seat could not be adjusted low enough for me to fit. This afternoon another vehicle came for sale by owner and we have a deal pending pre-sale inspection. It is a 2007 LBZ duramax with six speed Allison and 160,000 miles driven by a salesman who has owned it since 30,000 miles and in excellent condition. He loves the truck and just upgraded to a new one. I am concerned about one thing: the engine has 4407 hours on it and with 160k miles this puts it at an average of 38 mph. Must be a good chunk of slow driving or idling here. Would this concern any of you?

38 mph average is pretty quick for alot of in town driving, I think that should be okay.

He is a salesman to farmers in Alberta, so I figure he must have done a good chunk of slower driving on dirt roads. Will have my mechanic look closely.
