Jay Feather X23B - towing

I have a Durango Limited 2016. Hauling a Jay Feather X23B RV.

Went to weigh station fully loaded (minus water, grey, black empty).

Total was 11,020 lbs. The durango can handle the weight, but I know we are a little light on the front end, despite using weight distribution bars (400-600 lbs). Front axle shows 2600 lb, rear 3720, with trailer axles (2) at 4700 lbs. Any thoughts on balancing the weight a bit more equitably?

Hard to say, open the driver's door, and on the door jam, is a yellow sticker, with tow capacity details.

Your bars seem to light. I think you need 800's. I'm running 1000 lbs bars.

cy4rebel,

Welcome to JOF

I would recommend a CAT Scale visit and preform a "3-pass weigh-in" under loaded TV/TT conditions. The 3-pass weigh-in will confirm all your weights, proper weight distribution, tongue weight, and confirm your WDH rating/adjustments.

CAT Scale how-to:

I tend to agree, an 800lb rated WDH would be a better match for the X23B...., but the CAT will confirm.

Towing x23B with Durango

I have towed it several times now about 2 hrs each time. I find the Durango is capable, but think either a hemi version or a half ton would do the job more comfortably. The X23B has large sides, and acts very much like a sail in cross winds. The Durango gets pushed around a bit, but i have not had serious issues. I use the WDH (Husky with 400-600 lb bars) i have ordered 800-1200 lb bars to help get more weight on the front axle. Also have sway bar. Durango engine 3.5 seems to be fine. I watch temp carefully to make sure it is not overheating. Tow package is doing its job though as I have had no problems in this respect. Overall I think with the x23B the Durango is close to its max, comfortable, capability. I would not go heavier unless you have the hemi.

Looking to tow with a new Durango RT, I also have a 2019 X23B. I currently have been pulling it with a 2019 Ram 1500 with the v6 and it performs well with the v6. We were getting rid of the Ram and supposed to get in a Durango RT a few months back but the timing wasn’t right with everything going on (did have a Durango for a couple of weeks) I’m just mentally trying to process not towing with a pickup bs the Durango. Both vehicle specs are very similar.

Towed multiple times now, including that 9 hour trip. Durango was perfect. No issues at all, even in a 24 km/h cross breeze coming off Lake Ontario on a bridge. I’d recommend the Durango Limited and above for the Jay Feather X23B. I would not pull more weight than the X23B without the Hemi version of the Durango.
