jayco 25bhs hitch choice.

We are in the process of purchasing a used 2012 Jay Flight 25bhs and the owner is keeping his hitch for a new trailer. The 25bhs has a hitch weight of 775 lbs. I am planning on purchasing a equalizer 4 point hitch. My question is should I go with the 1000/10000 or move up to the 1200/12000 hitch. I don't think we will ever have more than 1500 lbs of cargo in the trailer. We are also pulling with a 3/4 ton crew cab Duramax. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to JOF

Go with the 1,200/12,000 Equal-i-zer...., and based on a recommended 13% to 15% loaded tongue weight range of the 25BHS's potential loaded weight the 1200/12000 won't be an over kill.

Worst loaded weight condition of the 2012 25BHS would be it's GVWR of 8,180lbs which equates to a 1,063lbs to 1,227lbs (13% to 15%) loaded tongue weight range.

The 775lb hitch (tongue) weight you sited is it's published "dry" (unloaded) weight.

Thanks for your input. I was already leaning towards the 1200/12000 so your input confirms my decision.
