Labor Day Drivers and Excessive Towing Speed

How many times have anybody seen Rv delivery guys doing more then 65. My last camping trip in ohio I saw 6 different guys doing wll over 65 . I was doing 63 and they passed me like I was standing still.

Agreed. I've seen several of these in my travels. Personally I run between 62-65 depending on terrain. But I will say the worse are still the everyday Joe Camper in his mini van towing a TT at 80 MPH.

I have never gone over 65. That is mainly because of the info I have taken from this forum. I joined the forum immediately after purchasing our tt, the day I purchased it I drove 80 miles home and was so new and nervous that I didn't go faster than 55.

I max out between 60 and 65. In a lot of states the maximum speed for any trailer is somewhere between 55 and 65mph. Unless you have LT tires on your trailer your tires are only rated for 65mph.

The sweet spot for our GMC / Pinnacle 5er is around 65 to 68, so that is where I typically run with our 5er.
Yes we are running "G" Rated LT Tires on our 5er.
I have to be careful with the towing as if I do not pay attention, my speed will creep up easily since our GMC / Pinnacle combination tows so good and smooth.

Even running at 65 to 68 I get passed like I am sitting still all the time, I have actually caught up with a few of those people that passed me when they are sitting on the side of the road with a blown tire.

I always fear driving in Michigan where we vacation once a summer and not becuase we have Ohio plates. On I75 and M23, the drivers are fast and aggressive. We've identified an alternate route to our destination that costs us 30 minutes but saves me and my wife from fearfully gripping our steering wheel for 6-7 hours. Michiganders make Massachussetts drivers (known as Massholes) seem tame.

I live in Michigan and the first few times I was towing was terrifying, but now I just stay in the right lane going 59-60 and let the traffic pass. The only area I get a little spooked is the 20 mile stretch between M-59 (our exit) and up around Holly, and it only seems stressful when we're coming home, probably because it's the end of the journey and we just want to get home.

Did anyone ever see a 1/2 ton PU towing a 5er about 30 feet long, in the left interstate lane, doing somewhere around 75-80mph, with a cell phone in one hand and a sandwich in the other, steering with his elbows ? I have, and it scared the you-know-what out of me. That's one reason I avoid the interstates as much as possible. You can see more interesting things along a back road, anyway.

Before I retired I was driving to downtown Atlanta on day to work and there was a lady behind me that amazed me. She first got behind me on a secondary street and then followed me all the way to downtown. I would have gotten away from here, but traffic wouldn't let me. She was driving a small 5-speed car, eating a donut, drinking coffee, putting on her makeup, (remember I said 5-speed and before I-75 this was real juggling act) and then the final thing was using one of those eyelash curlers. You know the the things that look hard to use even sitting still and she was doing it to each eye at highway speed in bumper to bumper traffic.
