Lining Wheel Wells

So I expect my F350 to be built and delivered sometime in April. The dealer canceled the factory installed bed liner due to it causing more of a delay in delivery. They will do a line x instead. I am wondering if anyone has experience using them to line the wheel wells. Is it worth it and is it needed knowing I live in salt country.

I would not apply bed liner material in the wheel wells. I would be worried that it would trap salt and moisture over time leading to potential issues. Instead, I would spray it down with an oil based coating such a Fluid Film making sure to also cover the frame, springs, axle housing, etc. while you are at it.

My 15 Silverado DRW did not have the option of a spray on bedliner at that time. The first thing I did was install my B&W turnover. The second thing was have LineX do my bed AND rear wheel wells. The fronts have factory sound deadening liners but DRW's dont come with anything. The LineX dealer I used was an hour drive away. I called them first to talk over getting a bedliner installed and have the rear wells installed and pricing. At that time they said they've never done rear wells on a truck before but they've done many other things, trailer frames, fenders, etc., and haven't had any issues. Prep is the key. If its prepped properly, it sticks permanently. If it's not prepped properly it wont stick. They did my bed and rear wells and did a fantastic job and I've had no issues whatsoever. They did get a little overspray on the back of my cab and on the outside of the tailgate, extremely minimal overspray. Like I said if it is not prepped, itll come right off. The cab and tailgate overspray came off easier that bug carcasses on the front.
They use a wire as an edge to make straight lines and took the spray about a 1/4" of the outside edge.
On a side note, my truck has NEVER been driven in the salt or winter, but I can't imagine how any type of salt could get behind it to start the cancer process. It's very durable and holds up very well.
I think it cost me like and extra $150 to have both wells done.

I just went out and took a few pics. Hopefully they turn out decent and you can see good enough the job they did on mine.

BTW, there like 20k on it there and it still looks like brand new. Cleans up very easy too.

Looks like you have a very nice application. I have seen others that are absolutely a disaster after a few winters in the road grime and salt. All it takes is a little chip or crack in the lining and all bets are off.

Hopefully the OP will end up with a quality application like you have if they decide to go that route.

The history of Line X is really interesting to read if you Google it. It was designed to be an explosion resistant coating for the military and some other super-secret squirrel people, and that led to another product they invented to mitigate fragmentation and spalling issues.

So now you'll sleep easier knowing your fender wells and box are more explosion resistant!

Midnight and Huron are both correct. With any type of undercoating the slightest gap or missed spot will allow salt and debris to penetrate and make matters worse. Especially if you operate in a harsh environment.

I fluid film my truck, trailer and all yard equipment including my plow twice a year. I believe it is a very good preventative against the harsh NY winters. On my mowers and tractor it helps keeps grass from sticking to the underside of the mower deck making it much easier to clean.

Does Ford have the option for wheel well liners?, or is it only available on upper end packages?

We have those front and back on our 2020 Chevy HighCountry, and they seem to do a good job. But, I don't think that they are an option that you can just add on. I think that you have to get an upper end "package" to get them...

They do offer liners but I was trying to control cost a little on the truck and keep it from taking a year to be built. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have the Ford factory rear liners on my F-250. Got them on Amazon for $124 but I had to install them myself which was a 30 minute job. Of course, this was 4 years ago. Just checked Amazon and they have Rough Country Ford rear wheel liners for $100 that should fit your new truck, among others.

Line X

In the town we live in Bay area Calif. their are a few 4x4 trucks that have been sprayed with line X on the whole body of the trucks. From front to rear inside finder wheels and under carriage. They look ok if you like the look.

Well I contacted Line X and to their credit they did not recommend anything sprayed into the wheel wells other than some type of undercoating treatment. I ordered fluid film and will treat the truck with that and maybe pickup some liners. Thanks for all the help.

Use the Fluid Film. Using a bed liner material will make any future repairs or maintenance a nightmare. Way back an F350 I owned in the '80 had Rusty Jones glop on about everything underneath. It didn't stop a bit of rust plus some body shop repairs ended up cost a bunch of out of pocket dollars due to the hours needed to do some minor body work - $1200 plus, IIRC - would have been even more in 2022 bucks at today's wages.

Oh and Ford will sell at least rear wheel well inserts if your new truck doesn't have them as a part of a package. My '11 has them as OE
