Looking for help in finding a new truck to tow

Hello,
I purchased a 2018.5 Seneca this year and now am trying to find the right truck to pull behind it. I am looking at flat towing. Currently I have a Nissan Titan that I am told can't be towed (I need to replace it anyway as it is 14 years old), so now it is time to buy something newer. Looking into any and all brands as I use it for my all around needs, small haul jobs, some kayaks, toys, etc. I like the newer GM Canyon and Chevy Colorado, but they may be just too comfortable (2 kids, the wife and a basset hound/sharpei mix). I downloaded the 2018 "Dinghy Guide" and started looking here but the choices are limited and somewhat confusing (put in park, move to reverse, turn key upside down then backwards, put back in park and drive away???) Huh? So anyway, any help in finding a solid midsize to 1/2 ton truck would be appreciated.

Unless they made a "major" change, all you needed to do on the Chev/GMC is put the transfer case in Netural. We towed a Colorado and a 1500 Silverado and both were simple.

My ‘17 F150 manual states it can be towed 4 down by putting the transfer case in neutral. Since the trucks have aluminum bodies now you might find one “plain Jane” that’s light weight and easy to tow. I was planning to buy a Sierra until I learned the Fords are also towable now. No experience. I’m planning ahead.

Yes, be careful in choosing. At least more info is available these days.

When we bought a Ford back in the 90's the sales manager assured us it was towable. It was not. I ended up installing a driveshaft disconnect (which worked well, just was not cheap). The ones to be careful of are the electronic transfer cases. Make sure you read the owners manual carefully before buying so you know how to set it up properly.

For a toad, lighter is better so that would be high on my criteria.
