Mad

Actually I am wanting to write a word here for my feelings that I know is not appropriate. 3 weeks ago I ordered a new 2016 Chevy 3500 truck and was told that it would be delivered in 6 to 8 weeks. Last week I called to check on it and saleswoman told me that Chevy is having difficulty finding a diesel engine. Today I called and she tells me that they are no longer making the color I specified. I don't think it is all the dealers fault and now what do I do? I cannot order a 2017 yet and there are so few options of 16's available.

I know it sucks...but I would just wait for what I wanted. Even if it meant waiting for a '17. You've waited this long, what could it hurt to keep waiting??

I think part of it is the dealer's fault. When I ordered my 2015 I was told 10 weeks and that there is only a certain # of DURAMAX engines allocated. How can they say Chev is having trouble finding an engine? Either it was available when they placed the order or it wasn't.

''having difficulty finding a diesel engine'' sure sounds like a strange reply from a mega corporation like GM.

The dealer probably doesn't know for sure until the order is acknowledged. Production is over for 2016 now, at least in terms of planning. So, they are going to have to select from what trucks are planned and have parts allocated in the system to build them. If it was a popular color, and they have already allocated all that paint color to other trucks being built now, there won't be any to build this truck. Same with the engine. If they are all allocated, the only way to get a 2016 is to get one they can build, or have already built. Often, the dealer orders vehicles for their lot, but GM ships something different, due to parts, components (like engine choices), paint colors, or even entire models, availability. Or, as in this case, non-availability. Right at the end of a production run, all the existing inventory is arranged and re-arranged to fit to however many trucks they can build to maximize what they can ship. For instance, they won't likely build a 1-ton 3500 dually crew-cab with a six cylinder gasser. They just got caught in that year-end crunch when many vehicles that aren't ordered, get built, and that is what GM ships to satisfy stock orders. Custom build orders are sketchy from May onward. Next month they will retool for 2017 production. That's when you would be able to spec and order a 2017 just the way you want it, to be delivered 6-8 weeks from that date.

I might be ok with this option but how many more thousands of dollars for the 17?

I would lean on the dealer to sell it at the same price. Wasn't your problem.

Normally, no. But end of production, very possibly. It was likely kicked out of the system that sets up incoming components and schedules assembly based on available items. This would have created some error code, and then a human would have to try to rationalize different parts into a workable solution. I used to order GM vehicles on the employee plan, and acknowledgement was about two weeks under normal circumstances. Busy humans trying to sort out dozens of last-minute orders could very well require another week.

My last words to her yesterday were to "do a nation wide search to find my vehicle and if you have to truck it in then you have to truck it in".

What are you actually looking for? You say SLT in signature but that is not a Chevy package. There is a lot of 3500 diesels sitting on the dealer lots around here in many configurations, long bed, short bed, regular cab, crew cab, different trim levels and so on. There are 9 on lots within 25 miles from me. Have you looked at GMC's? Basically same truck just a little different look.

You caught me in a mistype. I am looking for an LTZ Diesel with NO CLEARANCE LIGHTS and no snowplow prep. I want heated and cooled seats, 5th wheel package, spray on bed liner and I really want it to be of the tungsten metallic color. I have been searching all the states surrounding me and I'm not finding one

You poked my curiosity by "shouting" NO CLEARANCE LIGHTS. It seems that this is the only feature that you are adimate about. Just curious as to why no clearance lights?

I personally think that they are hideous looking. They are required by law if you are a USDOT licensed vehicle towing, but I am a private citizen towing only my RV. Plus I have heard of a few people having leaking problems with them.

Guess the old adage "order early" has been reinforced here. Is this really the hill you want to die on? It's a truck, just taking you down the road. We all have to settle on things at some time, to me, this would not be the hill I want to die on. I'd rather move on and fight another day when some really important issue comes up. JMHO.

You looking for crew cab or regular, single or dual wheel?

I debated taking one off the lot or ordering last month. My dealer, who I know well, cautioned me that the cutoff for ordering would be about May 20. Me thinks your dealer may be blaming their lack of knowledge on the faceless corporate guys. On another note, finding a 2016 with the 5th wheel prep is really tough if not impossible.

A 2017 is in my future, ugly hood scoop & all
