I have had more engines that did not "burn" oil over the course of my 50+ years of car ownership than those that did. I had a 2005 Lincoln Aviator that "used" the first quart in about 7-800 miles, then no further consumption. It had 7 quart capacity, so 6 in the pan was good. My 2018 Fusion 2.0L Hybrid "uses" 4-6oz of oil in 5k miles, measured from the drain, transferred back to the original oil container. My 2018 Nissan TITAN 5.6L V-8 "uses" even less in 5k miles. Even my 2000 model Briggs&Stratton Ariens 21LS doesn't need oil between changes...once a year.

I disagree... Ford 6.0 and 6.4 diesels MADE oil... the regen put diesel into the exhaust stroke and not finishing the regen would cause diesel to accumulate in the oil pan.. there was capacity to hold up to 2 or 4 quarts I don't recall which...I don't know what ford is doing with the 6.7 though

My step-son has a 2007 F450 wireline (oil field) rig with 25,000 hrs on a 6.0l. At about 10,000 hrs (200k miles) it lost a head and he replaced both after unenlightened mechanics failed to properly diagnose cracked heads, putting fuel in the coolant. He just spent $14,000 on a long block for his 2008 6.2l F250 King Ranch that chewed the valve train up at 5,000 hrs (148,000 miles). Both are lubed by Amsoil, proving when you dilute your lubricant with diesel fuel, doesn't matter what kinda oil you have, it puts metal shavings in the pan. He has several other rigs, including two International HV rigs with workbeds. The 2012 is working on 250,000 miles and has not been trouble free. The 2016 has almost 100,000 on it and is beginning to nickel and dime him with hardware emission issues. He says if he has to replace either International, it'll be with a Ford.

All great examples as to why a regular oil analysis schedule is very important with these modern diesels.
