Nasty 5th Wheel Turn in Mountains!!

I'm not familiar with how much "stress" a FW hitch can take, but this has to be pushing the envelope

Screen-shot from video:

The video goes into detail on the process of removing the FW from its predicament.

Can't play the video do to work computer firewall but, looks like somebody misjudged a turn. And it looks like more than once. Is it a teaching video? Done on purpose to show how to get out or...?

I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone pulling (or backing) a trailer that would have really benefited from a few days at a CDL school to learn a bit. While not free, it's smart.

There is a business opportunity. Something shorter/smaller just for RV owners.

Cut it way too sharp, and 14K on a 2500? He almost deserved it.

... couldn't agree more. We will see those turns differently from now on, and that's a good thing.

Just curious was "14K on a 2500" had to do with anything here?

Deserved it may be a stretch. Who knows. May be a pretty accomplished driver but we all make mistakes. 2500 would have zero to do with this. I try to look at things like this and think how could I have gotten myself into that same situation.

Made me cringe watching the video. So many mistakes made before it got stuck. For one thing he should have stopped BEFORE it ran off the road. It was still daylight and it was easily visible to the driver.

It's easy to second guess the situation and hopefully he, as well as the rest of us, learned from this expensive mistake.

Reading through some of the YouTube video comments I found that the "Everything Auto" video source stated that it was "3 hours total" recovery task.

After the recovery the FW owner was heading to a campground down the road...., one would think that some damaged was incurred "under" the FW?

I had the same thought. I would do as much inspection as I could and test what systems that might have been damaged. If there was absolutely no damage I would leave the next morning for Las Vegas.

Clear misjudgement- no criticism just the facts. The road to the right was underutilized.

My guess was some alcohol was involved. He drug the front left jack all over the road before he backed back into the situation he was in and then didn't even remember doing it. He said he didn't make the marks that led right to his jack. He drug it up that far and back without remembering it?

Hopefully most of us are better drivers than that. There is no reason other than poor driving skills to get that far left in that curve. It is easily a 2 lane road and he should have been far right.

I suspect you are correct on that.

I'm a retired tractor-trailer driver, 48 States and Canada. "Live In Your Mirrors"! Never forget, and you "Stop" before your trailer is in trouble. Trailers always "off-track" to the inside of a turn. Always watch your trailer tires in a curve or a turn including "Backing". I thought I'd share this because this kept me out of trouble for over a million miles "Long-Haul" Truckin'. Stay Safe!

Alcohol involvement or not, damn it sucks. As they said at the end, it happens to everyone...
