Correct. The engine has 8 cylinders and 9 fuel injectors. That 9th injector is located in the exhaust system upstream from the particulate filter.

This explains it better than I can, and also shows the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) system: 6.6L Duramax LML Emissions System Overview

You will get the $6k extra cost back from the much higher resale on the diesel. If you run your trucks into the ground then maybe not, but if you are like most of us and trade them in while the are rust-free and still worth a ton of money, the diesel will hold its' value.

I finally was able to afford a diesel this year so I went for it. After 2 camping trips, I will never tow with another gasser! I am only towing 8500# and it is really effortless especially while climbing hills or running into a headwind. The gassers, will downshift and rev high to pull the same hills.

Umm, how do you know when a regen cycle is going on a 2017 Ram 2500 diesel? I've put 3000 miles on it and haven't seen that light kick on. I remember reading that it will tell you if it needs to run it and then you have to hit the freeway for 45 minutes.

I love driving my diesel and am so glad I spent the extra money on it, lol. I camp around 7-8 times a year around 200 miles for each destination, so might not be totally worth it, but there's nothing like the sound of a diesel spooling up and oh God the torque!!

I have no idea! LOL Mine hasn't done it yet (that I know of) but I only have 4200 miles on it.

My Edge Insight CTS monitor is the only reason I know when mine goes into regen.

I have 40,000 Kms on mine and have no idea when it has gone into regen mode. I daily drive mine but my commute is 30 miles one way on the highway. I agree that the regen thing is overplayed.

I decided today. After all the very helpful comments here and looking at my current situation I went and looked at the Gas. They had it listed wrong, it is actually a 3500, not 2500. It is a bit overkill but a beautiful truck. I bought it. I am waiting to find out how soon I can pick it up. Its a bit of a rough ride but drove the 2500 and it was slightly better but not by much. I think right now this truck will fit the bill just fine. I will get my diesel someday when I don't have 2 kids in daycare.

Thanks to all for their helpful input!!!

Same here. About the only indication without it is the idle RPM goes up from 600 to 800.

Congratulations very nice looking truck. I don't think you will notice not having a diesel. Today's gas engines have a lot of nuts and pull great.

Looks very nice man. Those Chevy's sure do look good. If i could've found a 2500 Duramax i would've probably bought one.

Congrats! If I had it to do over again I believe that I would have gotten the 3500 but my 2500 is working for us on what we have now. Awesome let us know how you like it.

RB,

Congrats!!!

From what I have read, the 3500's should ride the same as a 2500 unloaded. The 3500's just have another overload spring. Maybe it was due to the tires having more air or different tires?

Do you have the tpms on the truck? What gvwr does your truck have? I had seen GM started having two different gvwr's like Ford has had.

Now get some miles (500 or whatever is stated) on the truck to break it in!!!

Enjoy the new rig!!!

So as an update I went to pick the truck up and they told me they made a mistake and there was $2K in the price that should not have been there with the 0% for 72 mo so it would be an additional $2K. We went back and forth but they wouldn't budge so I walked out. I luckily found another 2016, not an LTZ and this one is a 2500, but in my opinion just as nice. Not as fancy but really nice and saved a few thousand more. It had everything I wanted and I picked it up last week. I absolutely love it. Need to set my hitch and everything up this weekend I hope. Our first trip is the weekend of the 23rd.......Can't wait.
