New Drop Shank Needed

Anyone know if you must use an Equalizer brand shank for an Equalizer e4 WDH?

Purchased a new TV last week and need a longer drop shank, preference to fit a 2.5" receiver without an adaptor. etrailer.com carries the shank I like, but I cannot find any other vendors with it. Looking over their price of the 2" shank version and other lengths and comparing it to other vendors, etrailer.com's price is seams very highs.

Thanks

Happy Camping

Any brand drop shank will work. However, I used a different brand on mine (one I had from a previous hitch) because I needed more drop also, and I had play between the shank and hitch head channel. I could not get it tight enough. I could get it tight, but after a few hours of travel the head would be a little loose. It wasn't going to come off but it was concerning. I had to find some thin shims to slide in between the head channel and the shank. That worked and it stayed tight after that.

I can't comment in respect to the Equali-z-er WDH, but I went through the same process with my Reese WDH back in 2016.

I went with a Curt 2 1/2" receiver shank with my 2" Reese Ball Mount. Compatibility was good, but I did have to use a couple 'shims' between the shank and ball mount in order to insure proper fit-up before meeting the bolt(s) torque requirements.

I went with the Curt 2 1/2" shank because at the time Reese's version wasn't available. Curt Shank item #17128......., $99 back in 2016.

JOF thread on using Shank/Ball Mount 'shims':

Set-up has worked great to-date.

No, any brand will work so long as its the correct size. I believe I have a Husky brand drop hitch that I bought when I got a new truck, as that was the only brand my local dealer carried. Works find, but the finish wasn't as great as the Equalizer brand.

Hey Jaygiven - Not sure what the shipping will be but I have one of those drop shanks laying around my garage I would get rid of cheap. The exact one you pointed to in your link. I bought it for my previous TV and no longer need it as I have a different TV.

PM me if your interested.

I bought an "off brand" drop shank for my equalizer Hitch head. I think it was the Curt brand. The only problem was the sides had raised edges and it didn't feel as secure when I bolted the hitch head to it. Probably would have worked OK but I chose to stay with the Equalizer brand. Only reason I went 3rd party was a backorder issue with the Equalizer. I waited it out and got it.
