Mine has the 3.55 rear ended, so it usually likes 4th or 5th gear when towing, depending on the wind. But since it’s also my daily driver, it gets respectable gas mileage around town.

Same here, but no one believes me when I tell them the mileage I get

Pretty much same story here with my 2017 XLT Screw 4wd towing a Jay Flight SLX 8 267BHSW that maxes out at 7500 or so GVWR. Power to spare running up steep grades here in Colorado, and Tow-Haul generally does a good job of downshifting on the downhills, with only exception being on some steeper dirt national forest roads I was on last weekend. Tranny (10 speed) temp has stayed at or just under 200 degrees on paved highways, but got up to about 220 last week on a short overnighter on the NF dirt roads just mentioned. Interestingly, however, the transmission temp needle gauge stayed right in the middle and well below the "too hot" indicator threshold. Anyone know if this might be a problem?

As for mpg, I've averaged between 19 and 20 measured, with dash board saying over 21, for 2 long highway trips of 800 miles one way and back, and towing mpg has ranged from about 8.5 worst case to 11.6 measured going up and over several different mountain routes and back. Long steady upgrades seem to drop fuel mileage a lot, but it appears to almost more than make up for it on the long downhill return trip. But I have not been able to trust the dash mpg reading to be accurate and it's been consistently higher than the measured/calculated actual mpg.

The ride during towing has been just slightly squirrelly on the local interstate here (I-25), i.e., an ever-so-slight back and forth sideways movement that you can't see and that feels like it's in the front end and that is not noticeable on the two to 4 lane mountain roads I've been on for some reason. But I've been in some moderate winds and had semi-trucks pass close by in the opposite lane with no sway events occurring yet, so am comfortable with the experience thus far. Trailer and truck are just about perfectly level when hooked up with wdh. I still need to check tongue and axle weights at a CAT scale to see if the weight distribution is within specs, and hope to do that sometime soon.

These newer transmisssions/fluid are good to around 250 now a days, mine averages 190-195 around town and 205-210 towing. Nothing to worry about.

I've noticed the same thing....a slight up and down motion. I really noticed it over highway expansion joints. I ended up putting 3 more rounds of tension in both sides of my hitch (I'm using an Anderson Hitch) and it seems like it has all but eliminated it.

Thanks, JeremyFr, good to hear.

Midnight, I've noticed a little up and down on sections with the bad expansion joints also, but it's very slight and definitely not a rodeo experience. Seemed normal for that type of highway condition. Certainly prefer asphalt to concrete, IMO . . .

2011 f150 screw 3.5 eb

Reading these posts makes me happy. Against better judgement I jumped feet first with the first generation 3.5 F150. Usually wait a year or two but based on reviews, and yes the original F150 torture test commercials I was sold.

Towed a Jayco 29QBH back and forth between WA and MI at least four times. Even the first gen and six speed, the trucks pulling power, 3.73 and max tow package, makes it a great vehicle.

I now have 134k. I have bought two extended warranties, both of which paid for themselves. Just now the latest ext warranty is covering the cost of replacing both turbos. Yes, they do wear out. But I would in a heart beat buy one of the new ones.

Right now I have a loaner, F150, XL with 8ft beed with the 2.7l EB four. The engine is a freaking riot! Matted up to the 10sp tranny this truck can move and move in a hurry. Do not know what tow rating is but between Savannah, GA and Augusta GA I averaged 24 mpg.

Ford hit it out of the ballpark with EB engines. I would only consider the F150 with the new Diesel as a replacement.

Hooked up I weigh 6800 on the truck, same as the Silverado. The Chevy was 400 lbs overweight and the Ford has a couple hundred pounds to spare.
I love mine so far, just swapped to 2018 F150 from 2014 1500, tows great behind my Seneca. My easier to get into tow mode than the Chevy, and don’t have to disconnect the battery.

With the 3.5 I'm getting 19-20 with nothing behind me and between 8-10 with the trailer. Maybe I should tow slower

I had a f150 eco and now have an f250 with the heavy duty package and I can honestly say that there is no comparison between the two. While the eco did work extremely well the braking, weight of the tow vehicle etc. you can't compare. Just my 2 cents

I tow with a 2015 32BHDS with my 2013 Ford Ecoboost, up the mountains of NC to Gatlinburg TN and to the beaches as well - no problems. Love the Ecoboost!

First trip out with the TT last weekend. 7k on the truck, 14k combined, 351 miles round trip.

The power and braking ability of the truck are excellent. While I didn't pull and mountain passes I hot-rodded up some rolling hills with ease just for fun.

My hitch failed me (my fault). I was over 1000 lbs on the tongue (had been for 5 years with the previous tow vehicle) so I ordered heavier 1200 lb spring bars which didn't get delivered in time for the trip. The SL tires that came stock on the truck are soft and the bouncing bent my 1000 lb spring bars. I will air up the tires more next trip and get some load E's on there eventually.

Love the truck, just need some fine tuning with the load.

Question - which engine do you have, and how heavy is your trailer?

Thanks for the xtra details. So the 13k is total combined and not just gross trailer wt., right?

My signature line has my engine. 3.5L EcoBoost. It's the gen 2 motor mated to the new 10 speed automatic. My trailer weighs 8300, truck 5700, truck is 7k loaded, 14k combined. 7K is max for the F150's not equipped with the max tow package. I have tow package 53c.

Wait so you're at 7k, before putting the trailer on it?? if so you are grossly over payload there.
