New RAM 1500 Teaser
Did anyone else receive the new RAM 1500 promo? It looks like RAM is responding to the new F150. The teaser said the big reveal will be in March. I wonder what the changes are - Will it be chassis, body, engine, drivetrain, all of these or some of these? Maybe FCA has done something to enhance the EcoDiesel (?).

I got the email yesterday. Pretty interesting stuff. From a glance, I think that the front end looks a little like the Tundra. We are looking to replace my wife's 2010 Ram 1500 this spring and it makes you almost want to wait a little to see exactly what is happening.

I have read a little about it. I don't know how valid this all is but this is what I have.......
- lighter materials being used but the bed will still remain all steel.
- obvious visual changes, more streamlined grill etc. But still retaining the big rig look.
-possibly higher payload as seen by the 6 lug wheels.
- talk of getting rid of the 5.7 in favor of a turbo v6 which should get 30mpg.
- maybe a bigger cab like a megacab.
-ecodiesel making more power for increased towing.
That's what I have. I like the increased payload but not liking the v6 replacing the 5.7

Interesting - many sites state that the reveal is at the Detroit show next week. I am impressed with our 5.7. I could get into increased payload. I still vacillate on the diesel (costs, self-repair ability, and fuel availability vs. mpg and tow performance).
We won't buy another first-year model vehicle. Our current plan is a purchase down the road. Our 2012 has a ton of life left in her.

I read rumors of the 5.7L being phased out for the first time a few years ago. It wouldn't surprise me if it happened during this new model run. I've also read about the possible development of a turbo version of the Pentastar V6 so it would make sense that it would arrive for this new body style.

I agree with you. Love the 5.7 and it would be really difficult to give it up. My ram is leased and in 2020 when the lease is up, I may be buying this one so I can have my hemi. I have always believed that there is no replacement for displacement. I have never been a fan of turbo charged engines, at least not in a truck or muscle car, just my honest opinion.

How many miles are on yours? My wife's just passed 120K and it is unfortunately starting to get a little tired. The truck has all around been great, but we are now getting that timing chain noise that is common for these things and it is burning more oil than I would like. I'm not down on the truck in any way since it has been so good otherwise, but the change in performance as this thing gets some miles on it is our motivation for looking to replace it.

We have 85k on our 2012, and it runs really strong with no perceptible oil burn. I have been religious with self-servicing, since new. I started with Royal Purple (engine and diff.), use Mopar OE for the tranny (every 50k for TV), but changed over to AMSOIL on the last service. I am pretty sure this truck is going to do the job until we are ready to buy again. My goal is 200k minimum, but I do stay on top of it all. That's what has worked for me on all of our vehicles. Whatever it needs it gets, when it needs it or slightly before it needs it.

I am the same with the turbo craze. I have the "displacement gene" also. I know a lot about the history of combustion (engines that is), and I know how "wonderful" all of the latest and greatest is. For financial and peace of mind reasons, I need vehicles that I can repair and maintain. I am not in a place in my life to learn diesel and turbo mechanics. I regret that so much has been turned over to computers as well. I am an old school guy in some, not all, but some ways. And yes, I know how much "better" it a is now a days and how much "better" it's all gonna be when the machines do everything for us and know everything about us. Hopefully, I won't be around for the worst of it.

You sound like me. Ours has had Mobil 1 since new and I always do the required maintenance at or before the required service intervals. I do all of my work myself so I know that it is done correctly. I even did the spark plugs, all 16, when it called for just first set of 8. Oil burn started small at approx 75K. It is quite considerable (3/4 to a full quart per 1000 miles) now at 120K.
I am confident that the rest of the truck will hit 200K easy. I'm just not certain that this engine is going to last much longer. Last week, I called our local Jasper rep and a new long block will run me approx $3500 my price after core charge if I do the work myself. I'm not sure that I want to put that much money in a truck that is worth approx $10K on a trade.

I just watched the reveal and went to the website for more stats. Looks like the 5.7 will still be available and towing is up to 12,700 lbs and payload up to 2300 lbs.
