a good 6L or the ford 6.2L gas are both good get the 4.10's your mileage will be less but your pulling will be better...
It appears they will come out with a 7.3l gasser, the question is what will it go in. Some say it will only replace the 6.8 and not the 6.2.

I agree. My Ram got better mileage than my dad's truck by quite a bit, but it was still not what I would consider "good". Maybe good for 3/4T truck standards, but it was still not great. Compared to my 2012 GMC Sierra 1500, my Ram didn't do much worse; a little worse, but it wasn't what I considered "dramatic".

I got away with it because my commute is 7 miles, and we drove my wife's car (GMC Acadia) for non-trailer or non-hauling road trips, and most commuting (we work in the same place). The truck was pretty much only used when I needed a second vehicle, or when we were heavy.

But again, it depends somewhat on your usage. I could get pretty decent mileage out of my Ram if I could stay out of the tall pedal! Unloaded, if I could keep it around 70 mph on the highway, I could actually do pretty well for a big 4x4 crew cab truck.

But Crabman is right, larger gas trucks are thirsty beasts.

That's very thirsty for reg 1/2 ton Titan. What makes me look at the XD is my father in law has a 2018. Find truck very nice he gets average 16L/100km all town driving. But I do know the XD has different rear gear ratio and much more weight.

I run a 2017 Ford f250 6.2 with 4.30 gears. Tows like a beast. If I am easy on it I can get 14-15mpg with summer fuel 70 mph and under. Towing is 8-9mpg pulling our 324bhts TT. The nice thing with Ford if you get the long bed you get a 48 gal. Fuel tank. I had a 2015 Ram 6.4 hemi with 4.10 gears before this truck and we never gelled. The tranny I despised as it was clunky, gear spacing in tranny stunk in the low gears. Also their range selector or manual shift function rarely reacted as it should when commanded. The Ford tranny is spot on and reacts instantly to inputs. With Ford some guys are saying you only lose about 1 mpg from 3.73 gears to 4.30 gears. Which is about right as my brother has a 2017 6.2 with 3.73 and he gets about 1 mpg better. But he also has a ccsb truck where mine is a cclb. Good luck in your search.

I would be looking at a crew cab short box, and think the 3.73 gears are fine for me, 3/4 for years this was only option.
At 14-16 as daily driver that's not to bad, my current D-max runs 14-20 mpg summer and 12-15 winter

My '17 F-250 gasser has a payload of 3305lbs. I have the 3.73 rear end and get around 9mpg towing our 9200lb Eagle. I know the 4.30 rear end would tow better but since I only get out 7-8 times a year the 3.73 does a fine job. Love my F-250 but as other posters have said, it'll pass anything but a gas station but I didn't buy a heavy duty truck for fuel economy. I bought it for the ease and safety for towing.

So far my lifetime is 10.4 on the truck. I do a lot of country city driving. My best tank in this scenario is 12.5-13. Highway was 14-15. My truck doesn't get driven a lot. Only had 7600 miles on it in one year.

Thanks

Although I am no help with your question, your post confirms my feelings toward a potential Super Duty in my future. Just bought a F-150 so it’ll be a few years off but every time I try to price one out, I get to that damn engine option and am just floored at the early $10,000 option for diesel (at least with the Power Stroke). I can add a LOT of options by sticking with gas.

Although I am no help, I appreciate this post. We just bought a F-150 and LOVE it (will he towing a 30’ Jay Flight) but I realize if I want to ever get a bigger RV, I’m going to have to look at a Super Duty. Every time I price one out, though, I just am floored when I get to the engine option and see that nearly $10,000 option staring at me (for the 6.7 L Power Stroke). I can add a LOT of options by sticking with gas for that money!

I really like my 2015 Chevy 2500 6.0. Not letting go of it for a long, long time.

Now to muddy the waters, the 2020 GM 2500HD will be getting the new 6.6 gasser. 400 HP and 450 torque compared to the current 6.0 Vortec 360 HP and 380 torque. It will be direct injection and most likely will also have the AFM cylinder shutdown stuff common on the 1/2 ton V8's.

I would suggest you check out Ram’s 5.7L and 6.4L Hemi engines in their 2500 trucks. Great motors.

Sounds like a ton of speculation on your part. Here are the actual facts for gas-diesel
Price paid for diesel option 8-10k.
This price is returned to you in full upon trade in or sale when you are ready to move on.
Oil changes are more expensive. Since you are performing one every 10000 miles it really is on par with gas oil changes if you use synthetic.
Fuel economy honest data-
I have owned identical trucks one gas and one diesel The diesel is 5-6 MPG in any condition.
DEF is one gallon per 1000 miles at roughly 2.25 per gallon from the truck pump.
Last don’t believe what you hear about HD Ford gas fuel economy. Trucks now have fuel consumption data and there are many of these trucks st work. Non of them are above 9 MPG. My gas Ram averaged 14 over 76000 miles.

If your concerned about gas mileage, look into a cheap car. Lol

I towed with my 2010 f150 5.4l 4x4 crew cab 6.5 foot box with the max tow.

Pulled my 27bhs jayflight with zero issues, plenty of power. Gas mileage not towing was in the 15L per 100kms range, not bad for such a large truck.

Trucks i am looking at are either Gm 2500hd again but 6.0 gasser, F250 gasser or Nissan Titan XD gas, what are thoughts really looking for reviews on titan xd for towing this large trailer, real word day to day mpg etc
Jiffy, I have a 2017 28bhbe and we pull it with a 2018 F250 FX4 with a 6.2 gas, 6 3/4 bed and 3.73 rear end. The payload is 3015lbs. I had a 2015 F150 with max tow and eco boost but was not enough truck for the 28bhbe so we upgraded to the F250 and love it. Did a 2600 mile 2 week trip to east coast through the smokey mountains in October and it did great. You will be happy with how it pulls your 28bhbe, I know I am. Fuel economy pulling camper averaged 8mpg going through the smokies. For that trip it averaged 8-10mpg. I get 16mpg driving on hwy. Just a little real world info for you my dad has a 2018 F250 diesel and I used it to pull my camper one time and it only did 1.6mpg better then my gas engine for the same 90 mile trip!!!

Personally I'd never get another Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0. My 2016 was a mistake, should have got a Ram or SuperDuty!.
The 6.0 lacks HP & torque other gas competitors have standard.

Even with the 4.10, it was a dog?

I had a '14 2500 and with the 3.73. It couldn't get out of its own way with a trailer attatched to the back end. Great truck in every other way. I liked the engine. Just not for pulling. I assumed with a 4.10 rear end it would be a lot better.
