I have the 2018 with the 6.slow and felt the same way. The HP/torque numbers are in-line with the 5.3L in the 1500 but the gearing is better. That being said, it tows relatively well according to TFLtruck:

https://www.tfltruck.com/tfltruck-hall-ike-gauntlet/

The motor is due for the refresh that Mad Cow mentioned but I'm otherwise happy with the 6.0L.

yes that would be awesome those things are the best ever! The Burban's are not attractive and have become nothing but grocery getters.. the mirrors are so small you can't see anything but the door handle... and they are closing in on $100k or are already over that with the denali packages...

Interesting discussion.
I currently am looking for a new truck as well...but only due to the age of my current truck. I have a 2004 Yukon XL XLT with the 5.3L and max tow package. 12K lbs capable but I wouldn't do that! Have over 214K miles so far with NO issues!
She's very capable, been towing my 2.5 ton sailboat around for 14 years and now tows my Coleman 249RB at 6500lbs max. Sailboat towing gets me 10-12mpgs and trailer gets me 8-10mpgs at 65mph. Been all over the country over the years. She gets 18-20mpgs without load on the highway!

I've settled on either a 2016 Sierra 1500 or HD with the 6.2L gas and tow package. With the 8 speed trannie, the stock rear end that comes with the tow package should be fine. That's my only complaint with the Yukon...4 speed trannie is not enough...you need the gears the take advantage of the hp and torque. I believe the 2016 6.2 is rated at 420hp and 460lbs of torque. That should easily pull my two trailerables.

As for cargo capacity, I currently have around 1680 lbs on my truck, but there is only 2 of us now. So that's not as issue for us. Sounds like it is for you.

Jiffy, I would recommend you look into the Sierra 2500 with the 6.2l, XLT package and towing package. The 2016 and up years are well rated. They may not have the cargo capacity you need...so look at the door stickers when you visit.

One another thought: The next gen trucks are going to be interesting. GMC is bringing out an inline 6 diesel and Ford is coming out with a bigger EcoBoost. Towing is getting easier each year with these new motors and trannies!

Good luck on your search.

Once again thank you for the feedback. I currently have 2013 GMC Sierra HD with 6.6 duramax love the truck for towing hate it in winter, constant Def problems, some may say oh you have a lemon I say no, have few friends same truck and ones with power strokes, we all have had Def issues, tired of paying $1500 to $5000 a year and def system. I will not delete it, have been pulled over and checked for emmisions once already. But it seems more like the 6.2 F250 is sounding like the better option touch better mpg then 6.0 gm, and I know its way better the. The hemi, friend of mine his wife company all have 6.4L and they ave 24L/km when not loaded or towing and lots front end parts due to our horrible roads. Do not take this as truck bashing I am. Die hard gm guy looking to switch to something better for my day to day driving.

I've had 2 Excursions [2000, 2005] one gas and one diesel and although I loved them the payload capacity isn't/wasn't what you think but they were the king of the SUV's. To the OP, I have the Ford F-250 with the 6.2 and the 3.73 rear end. If you're going to tow a lot get one with the 4.30 rear end.

Hello, We have 2014 GMC Sierra (special made to order) with 6.2L and Max Tow Package (12000) has 3.73 gears, we pull a 2013 Jayflight 29RLDS. We have over 40000 miles towing in the Rockies etc and no problems. It pulls the TT fine, MPG ranges from 7-10 towing, 18-22 driving. We have the 6speed trans. 2019 have a 10 speed which will do an even better job. Rides great whether pulling or not. 2500HD gets a smaller engine with less power, but a stiffer suspension, not sure it is worth the extra $. Happy shopping.

The 6.2 with max tow is a beautiful truck and has more then enough power no one ever complains about that 6.2 , but the problem was is the payload. When. Started shopping the sticker for payload was 1750# for a sierra slt crew 6.5 box with max tow and 6.2l this is where the problem begins, my trailer tongue weight is 1000# then add full tank of gas that's not in payloads ad number add myself , wife, Kids. And now your too close or over payload limit, sure truck can take it, but heaven forbids accident , insurance are very strict when comes to numbers

We have the 2017 F250 Lariat FX4, 6.2L with the 4.30 gears. Our payload is 3010 lbs. We typically get 14-15 mpg not towing at 70 mph and 8-9 mpg when towing our FW that weighs right at 10,000 lbs. We are very happy with the truck. The truck and FW are a great combination.

We have an '06 Silverado 1500HD 2 WD with the 6.0, 3.73 rear end and it handles my Jayco 25F pretty well. It doesn't set any speed records in the mountains, but it does the job that I need it to. The camper is 5350 lb dry and we pack probably 600-800 lbs of stuff. I keep a pretty good eye on gas mileage especially when towing and it will average 9.7 -10.5 mpg depending on terrain and temperature, 14.8-15.3 mpg non towing.

I recently bought a 2017 GMC 2500HD Denali with the 6.0L gas engine. It was used, but only had about 5300 miles on it. I have a White Hawk 29REKS and it handles it well. If you're going to go with the Sierra, you might want to do it soon. With the redesign of the 3/4-ton (next model year as I recall) the 6.0 is supposed to be replaced with the 6.2L, however, it will require premium gasoline. The 6.0 operates fine on regular unleaded.

Congrats on the new truck. Be sure to give feedback on what you are getting for mileage both empty and towing. Post up some pics of the new truck! I would have been very interested in the XD but the front ends are too ugly for my taste. I am extremely happy with my Ram though.

I guess it’s too late now but did you consider deleting the dpf? Not sure if you can do that up there or if you have emissions testing.

Actually, the 6.0 is not being replaced in 2020 with the 6.2, it is getting it's own new motor..... 6.6L V8 gasser. Direct Injection, 400 HP, 450 lb Torque. Will not require premium gasoline like the 6.2L. The 6.2L is just a hot rod engine for the 1500 series.

It is not legal in my area to delete Dpf, have friends who have done it, way better truck after but for me, to much to late. Want try something different and will be honest my new Titan front end is not the greatest looking but want to give it a try and tough to beat the 5yr warranty. Time will tell how this truck is,it was tough I have been a die hard GM man for 20years but was hard to give my money to them for a truck that paint peels after 3 years , front ends etc. But now with new one I will post once I start towing the good and the bad on new truck. I can say up front 2 things I know I will miss 136L fuel tank and exhaust brake.

Giving fast review, I have yet to tow my 28bhbe with my new Nissan Titan XD gas, but I have pulled it out of storage and set the torsion, bars hitch etc.
First off I was very impressed first hooked up with no bars truck only dropped 3" in rear and front raised 1"
Now that my hitch and weight distribution bars are set ,the front levelled off to factory height and rear about 2 "
Do not want to bash GM ( drove them for 15 years ) but all my 2500, 2500hd never took the load the same way my last sieraa2500hd dropped 5"with same trailer.
Now can not wait to get out and tow to see how handles on the road

My 06 2500 Silverado would only drop 2 inches with a 1000lbs TW and my XD drops 2 3/4 inches with the same weight. This was before WD was added.

Finally got few in on new Titan XD gas and my 28bhbe.
Can say now I am glad I made the choice with this truck, every day to work ride is so much smoother and for towing truck has impressed me.
Takes the load very well, no sway at all very good pulling power and maintain speed limit up hills
