New tow vehicle

New member here, I have a new (new to me) tow vehicle & travel trailer. It is a 2011 Silverado w/ 5.3 and a 2006 Jayco BH. My gross weight will be just north of 12,000 lbs.

I have only ran several short trips (35 or so miles) and it looks like my mileage is going to be around 10 mpg.

What kind of mileage do you folks get with a similar setup...

Tks in advance.

Bill

That`s about what my 04 1500 got towing my 28BHS, 10mpg. I`ve seen 11 under perfect conditions and a light trailer but also 9.

Sounds about right , I got around 10mph with my old 96 Chevy 5.7 and get around 7-9 with my 06 Chevy 6.0.

That seems to be the majic number. Pulling our camper I usually get 9.1 - 9.6 - depends how fast I want to push it. Keep it 55 - 60 and I can do the 9.6. Try to push it over that or get a strong head wind it is 9.1 or less. Seems like frontal area affects the MPGs as much on the highway was what weight does. Obviously in town or stop and go, the weight comes in to play. In my case, I try not to watch the gas gauge while going up a hill.

I get the same dismal mpg (9-12) with my Ford Expedition 5.4 towing a 23b. With regard to the frontal area of the trailer; has anyone tried a wind deflection spoiler for the top of the truck? I really feel the difference with a head wind and thought the spoiler might make a difference. The ones I've seen run about $300 but hesitant to drop the money on a guess.

Thanks JimW
