Next Diesel Oil Up?

I have used Rotella T6 (5-40) for the several years. My last oil change it just wasn't available anywhere. I had to change oil before a trip, so I bit the bullet ($240) for a Motorcraft super duty filter and full synthetic oil. No idea how much the dealership charges for an oil change now, but man is it expensive for the materials. Most places here have completely empty sections of diesel oil. I tried to order T6, and no dice.

Since, it seems T6 isn't a thing anymore and Motorcraft likes their oil way too much for my wallet, what is the next choice for a PowerStroke?

$240?!?! Ugh! They are proud of their stuff, ain't they?? Lol
I coulda had a 2.5 Gal jug, a 1 Gal jug and a filter, Amsoil, all shipped to your door in 2-3 days for WAY cheaper than that.
Now, not knowing exactly what equipment you have, you did say a powerstroke, so I did it based off a 2021 6.7. The 6.7 capacity should be the same since inception, so you'd have a quart left over.

Mopar. When i bought my 18 Ram w/cummings, the dealer was running a President Day deal with the purchase. I added a lifetime oil change package for $800 bucks. Only good at the dealer i bought it from, which is fine, they've been around for 40+ years.

Gee, and I thought finding wet cat food was a challenge. Fortunately, I have enough Rotella-T on the shelf for the next change… but I’ll have to buy an oil filter, though.

This is a good deal usually they exclude the diesels.. they also figure you will sell it long before you can use it...

We have plenty of 10W30 and the 5W40 synthetic. Synthetic is $14.63 per quart as opposed to $5.50 for regular x 13 quarts. Filter is $26. Rotella is back again. We saw the backorder for diesel oil and stocked up.

RAM usually has a special on full synthetic diesel oil change for $109.95, which is the usual charge for non-synthetic. I very good deal. Good at any dealer.

It sure is. I have 220K on my 6.7 with 10W30 oil and added oil conditioner. No problems. I just can't swallow $14 per quart for synthetic and I only use Ford oil.

Whatever brand oil you choose, make sure it's on Fords approval list for the 6.7L. Most major brands are on it along with some I've never heard of. Amsoil is not on the list although it's a great synthetic.

It does not matter if it is on Ford's list. If something blew up Ford would have to prove it was because of the oil you put in. Amsoil already went that battle with Harley because they claimed only their oil could be used in the bikes. Harley lost that one. Magnuson-Moss.

My price for Amsoil 15-40 full synthetic diesel/marine is $10.49 a quart. Less if you buy it in larger containers.

Amsoil is way better oil than Harely's anyway. There has been several scientific test the proved that.. When i had Harley's Amsoil is all i ever used.

Amsoil price per gallon for 5-40 seems to be close to Motorcraft. I thought there was some benefit to Amsoil in pricing?

I have always used Shell Rotell 15-40 from WalMart. Their product Super Tech is the same oil as Shell just in a different label. I get whichever one they have in stock.

The above was for 15W40. 5W40 is $7.40. My dealer/preferred cost. There are three "grades" for most all weights. The lowest is generally the OEM grade with OEM change intervals. You can be anal like me and put more costly, longer change interval in if you wish. I don't sell so I am not soliciting.

There is the "oil is oil" crowd and I understand that but if you look at the wear tests on different brands, that thought process is not totally true. Some do not do well.

Red Line and Royal Purple aren't bad either.

Sad story

I went to Tractor Supply in search of Rotella T6 but they were out of it and also out of every similar higher quality oil, but off to the side was a 2.5 gallon of T5 so I purchased that instead.

Then I got home and found the container had fallen over in the back of my truck and the seal inside the container didn't hold and about a qt was lost in the bed of my truck...

I suppose I could add another qt of something similar as my Duramax needs the 10 qts and all I have now is 9.

So sad... could be worse I suppose. ~CA

Here I go again, as a retired long- haul Trucker. Shell Rotella was exclusively used in my Freightliner Tractor with 60 Series Detroit Diesel. Any Truck Stop sells Rotella by the Gallon. The big Diesels take Gallons, not QUARTS!....You could probably save money buying by the GALLON?....It stores nicely in a gallon jug.
