Opinions on F250 V10.

My current tow rig is a gmc sierra with the 5.3 half ton. I'm pulling a 2013 DSBH. It does fine but the truck is rusting badly and I want to unload it before it gets any worse. I found a mint 2004 f250 v10 2wd drive and was wondering if anyone else tows with one. I know the mpg is bad but I've heard they get the same mpg (11 to 12) towing as they do unloaded. It will only get used as a tow vehicle. I would think that being a 3/4 ton would make it a little safer as a tow rig? Thanks

I have a 2003 F350 V10, and love it. Mileage is 12-14 not towing and 11-12 towing. Except for very steep hills, the V10 doesn't seem to notice the 11,000# 5er behind it. On the hills, I just downshift, and up we go. I think you will be pleased with the F250. It should definitely improve your safety and handling over the 1/2 ton. JMHO

We also have the v-10(Fords best kept secret:wink in our tow rig. Amazing power. The first trip we took in it, pulled a 6% grade at 60mph and I didn't even have my foot in it. One thing you will notice is that the ride will not be as smooth as a 1/2 ton when empty. It gets a little smoother with something behind it or in it, but these things are beasts and made for pulling and carrying a load.

Here's a link to a site that is a lot of help:http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php You can scroll down to the Super Duty forum and there is also a forum on the v-10.

Hope this helps, J

I've been towing with an 08 F250 V10 since it was new and Its great. Many trips to the west coast and back with this truck and trailer. It's thirsty, 8-8.5 towing and around 12 empty. The automatic transmission in this truck is great, put it in drive/tow haul and it know best from that point on. With my old trailer 7500lbs aprox. the cruise would work fine until it got real hilly, then I'd take over.

Opinions on F250 V10.

I had an '03 F-350 and towed up to a 15k race trailer with it. The biggest load was an 11' truck camper with a Jeep on a trailer at about 7k.

Did great in all respects.

Can pass anything on the highway except a gas station.

I had the V-10 in my 2000 Excursion. I traded it in with 165k and all I ever did was change the oil every 3000 miles. Truck never missed a beat and would tow anything. In my opinion, one of the best engines Ford ever produced. The other being the 351 Cleveland!

X2, TCNASHVILLE, on one of the best engines ever produced by Ford. Except that I would add the 1928-31 Model A engine (sometimes used for airplane engines in the '30s) and the 351 Windsor in my '77 Thunderbird.

We like the 351 Windsor. My brother just built one stroked to 410ci. The thing makes 525hp on pump gas and with nitrous, will be close to 700hp at the crank. Wish ford still made them. Meanwhile my f250 deal fell through and now I'm looking at a dodge ram 2500 with the hemi. Not sure about them but it has low miles and the guy is selling real cheap.
