outfitting a slx8 242bhs for the road

Hi All,

New to the forum and trailering.
I'm looking for any recommendations on a decent weight distribution hitch, brake controller, and camera set up for a 2021 slx8 242bhs. My tow vehicle is a 2015 Silverado 1500 4WD double cab.

Thanks,
Tim

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new Jayco.

You will get various replies about hitches and controllers. Most of us are pretty happy with our setups and have favorite products that we would recommend. Popular names on this forum for hitches include Equalizer, Andersen, Blue Ox. Tekonsha brake controllers seem to also be popular with members.

Take the time to research each of the products. There are fundamental differences in how they hook up and operate. Please stop back with any specific questions that you may have.

Thanks, we’re pretty excited for spring to get here. Blue Ox and Tenkosha are on the radar.

Welcome

Mysticoysterguy,
The Fastway e2 2-Point Sway Control WDH has been good for us. I prefer the round stabilization bars versus the chain style. The bars might be somewhat noisy but seem to stand up to sway. I've been able to make some adjustments, tighten up some brackets on this WDH. I'm satisfied. Our camera system isn't a Furion set up. I see the benefit of buying Furion since most campers are pre-wired and mount ready to fit Furion. I went with LeeKuloo off Amazon. I was able to modify the camper backup camera mount to attach the first camera. Second camera is on my hitch and functions as my TV backup camera. 2 cameras for half the price of a Furion.

Welcome aboard!

I've had good luck with the Equal-I-Zer setup.

You don't need to wait for Spring! Winter offers some of the best chances to get out and explore. You might need to "dry camp" to bypass another winterization but you'll have the parks to yourself. Mystic KAO might be easy in and out to give it a try for the weekend.

X2 on the Fastway e2 setup. Took a couple of try's to get it set up "just right", but very happy with how it functions. One hint to cut down on the noise, spray a little WD40 on the surfaces where the bars rub every time you hook up. One other note; I had to replace the shank on mine with one that had 2" more drop and 3" more length due to Chevy's crappy design for their hitch on my Suburban.

For brake controller, you can't beat the Teconsha Prodigy brake controllers. Very easy to set up and use. Just order it with the custom wiring pigtail to plug directly into your power distribution panel under the dash.

For a camera, I went with a TadiBrothers setup. Seems to work pretty well even at highway speeds.

Welcome aboard.

There are lots of decent and excellent WDHs. Key is to ensure it had a good integrated sway control. I'm currently using an Equalizer E4, I really like it.
