Owwwieeeee

Took the truck in for excessive smoking. They diagnosed blown head gaskets on both banks.. when they opened it up the damage was enough that it is cheaper to replace the motor with a new long block rather than rebuild.. $18500.00 (Canadian dollars)
Maybe I should start a go fund me page??

That is highway robbery. There's absolutely no way it should be that much to replace head gaskets. Sorry to hear that... I wish I lived closer to you, I'd do it for $10k. lol

Sean did more or less say they found additional damage once they got inside. Labor is expensive so it very well could be cheaper to just replace the engine.

Stop by and drop it off with the signed title. I can putz on it and try to learn as I go. I've always wanted to rebuild an engine.

In reality, it might be worth looking for a donor truck.

Is this at th dealership? I believe there are a few diesel tuning shops in Saskatoon that work with oil burners all day long. See if they can get you a better price. Replacing is the best route, but maybe they can do it without the obligatory dealership pillow...

I'd call local wrecking yards for a complete lowest mileage engine I could find and swap it out if it really needs another engine.

I would replace the truck. If you get another engine and replace it you might end up with the same problem. Dura Max engine of that era are prone to have problems and if the new engine hasn't been taken care if you will be in the same boat. My 2 cents.

Id see what they would give you trade in value on it at a few local dealers. If its not much of anything (and depending if you need a truck ASAP) Id just get the best deal w/o the trade and get a new or used truck. You can sell the blown one on CL down the road to someone looking for a decent truck to put their motor in. Don't mess with a junkyard motor they are typically 50/50 at best and not worth the time/expense.

Faster too.. winter is coming and I want to be OUT OF HERE the one they are putting in is a factory new motor not a rebuilt.. it works out cheaper in the long run and comes with a 5 year 100,000 warranty..

I took it to DSG first.. and the quote from them was even more... The $144.00/hr labor charge is the real killer from the dealership. Working with the dealership they are giving me a discounted labor rate and reduced cost on the motor.. not real happy but I do like the truck A LOT and payments on a new vehicle is way more than what I am paying.. No pollution crap on this truck and rust free.. so I decided to keep her..
