P vs LT tires

I am looking at purchasing new tires for my 2009 silverado 1500. The previous owner had put on a smaller size and I want to get back to the original size.

We recently ordered a 26bh and I will be near the max payload. I am currently considering the Michelin ltx defender m/s which is available in both p and lt.

I found some threads on the forum that recommended upgrading to LT, but am curious from those who did it, did you notice a big difference? Any regrets?

On my 2010 GMC 1500 as soon as the 'P' Tires wore I replaced with LTs. (Did the same on my 2000 GMC) Immediate difference, better ride characteristics , stiffer and no sway. With any type of TT towing the stiffer sidewalls give better handling.

I personally believe all PUs should be using LTs if towing. Never had any regrets

I ran a set of P-michelins (stock wheels/tires) on my Tundra in the winter and a set of Cooper LT's, load range E not C for towing. Made a big difference in vehicle stability. I agree all 1/2 ton trucks with towing package, should have LT tires.

It is my firm belief that not only should pickups for towing service always have LT type tires, but should always be Load Range E. This is what many highway patrol organizations highly recommend, as tires with lesser ratings flex more under load, especially during climbs or acceleration. They run much hotter as a result, and blowouts are far more likely. When it comes to safely navigating the highway with loads, ride is a distant concern way down the totem pole of importance.

I also put a set of Michelin LT load range E tires on my 2010 gmc p/u last summer and haven't looked back.

Thanks for the quick replies, you have helped solidify my decision. Tires are yet another big investment.

Yes, tires are a big investment but too important to safety to skimp on.
