I know a lifted truck is not the ideal tow vehicle, but it's what I have and what I'll use. It also pulls a 40 ft GN flatbed loaded with 4 wheelers and side by sides.

I did something similar. I traded in my 08 V8 Pathfinder and bought a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with the 3.0 EcoDiesel.

I did an experiment over memorial day weekend. I borrowed my brothers EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee and towed my trailer from Utah to Yellowstone and had a 14.1MPG average over 354.4 miles. On my 08 V8 Pathfinder towing it home to Utah I barely got 8 MPGs. Both ways I tried to maintain 65 MPH. The Jeep held the speed easier.

Here's the new ride:

Just picked up my new 2015 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins Tuesday. Been running all around getting steps, window vent visors, and sprayed in bed liner. Get new hitch put in Monday and leave on camping trip Tuesday. Boy, cutting it close.

It handled great without the air bags but, even better now. I had an F150 before this and there's definately a huge difference as far as ability and handling. Since I've added bags to the rear, it's a very noticeable difference. Just about eliminates sway and bounce. As far as mileage, well..it's not as bad as I originally thought it would be. Normal everyday driving, I get about 15 mpg. (mostly highway driving). Drops to about 9-10 mpg when towing. All in all, not bad.

Thinking about switching?

Thanks for the info. My lease will be up as the new 250 redesigns hit the dealers, so yes I was thinking of upgrading. I do mostly around town as my daily driving and get 14 with the F150 EcoBoost, when towing I see 9 mpg. I am definitely looking for the better payload, so might just jump to the 350 in case a fifth wheel comes along in the future.

Here's the "Boss" with her shiny new 2015 F150 3.5 EB Max Tow. Ford has made some nice improvements. We had a 2013 EB, never had three seconds trouble. Nothing.

Thank you! We now have a matching CAP-IT cap on it. Looks pretty sharp! I don't have a decent pic of it yet.
