Prepping for inaugrual trip

After more than a year stationary we're getting ready for the first trip out.

Step 1: make a place to put the hitch:

Bolted in. Still need to run the airlines.

And just for reference, here's a pic while we were testing the fit and dimensions earlier:

Test hookup

Airlines in. I just poked a schrader valve out by the passenger door on the bed frame. I can pump it up using my little 12v compressor for now.
It's a non-air brake truck so no existing air supply.

Hitched up with the truck at an angle to the trailer to check the tightest clearances. All good, a win for math and string.

Trip Results

Travelled from Seattle to NE Oregon. From Seattle to Prosser via Snoqualmie Pass we got 7mpg and pulled the steepest grades at about 30mph. Truck handles awesome, if it wasn't for the slowdown you literally couldn't tell there's a trailer on the back. No pushing, pulling, bouncing, swaying, rocking, etc. Final location for the pin ended up being 12" behind the rear axle. No problem for the MDT. Backs great too, it's been 20 years since I pulled a gooseneck and we slotted it right in its spot with out issue (big truck mirrors help too).

What you need is a "full sized" pickup like this one.

I know, we went with the baby one only rated for 26,000lbs. While we do live in ours full time we don't travel full time, so for us this was the budget option. I can say that this trailer is about as big as I would go with the Cummins ISB /Allison combo. Even now I'll probably end up swapping out for a heavier transmission down the road and turning up the Cummins a little more.

That's how that should have read.
