Question for Dodge Ram Owners

Hi,

I found a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Quad Cab 2WD with the 5.7L Hemi with 58,849 miles on it and was wondering if anyone has had any experience (good or bad) with this truck? We are looking at trading in the Envoy for it and the dealer is asking $12,995 wondering, too high or just about right on the price?

Thanks,

Ted

I am with Seann on the price. That seems like 4x4 price

http://www.kbb.com and http:www.nada.com It might be a good price for your area.

Thanks for the input guys. NADA shows "Clean Retail" for this truck as $14,750 and KBB shows $16,363. I was surprised at both those myself but that's what it shows. The Envoy I have for trade is about the same.

Thanks again.

I agree with the price sounding high. I would offer around the 10K and then work from there. I would check craigslist or other web sites, and see what similar vehicles are being sold for in your area. Typically website prices are pretty low, so there won't be much wiggle room from those prices. Hope this helps.

The exaust manifold bolts are worth checking. My neighbour has one and that is a problem he encountered. Bolt backed out and caused manifold to warp, resulting in whole new manifold. Also the transmission lines rotted out, requiring replacing. Probably not a factor for you in NV as there's very little rust and road salt down that way. Those are two areas for you to look at that I know of. I would definitly take it to an independant trustworthy mechanic for a look over. May be the best 50-100 bucks you spend.

Once again "WE" procrastinated far too long and the truck was sold last night. Thanks again for all the input.

We are now possibly looking at a 2005 fully loaded Tundra, we will see how long we procrastinate this time

I have a 04 Dodge ram 1500 quadcab 4x4 and absolutely love the truck, I bought mine new so I know it hasn't been abused. I have the complete factory tow package including the tow haul mode......I think I am going to need it to pull my first brand new travel trailer. I have towing experiece so that isn't a problem. I willbe picking it up on Sat and will be buying a WDH and brake controller. Anyone recommend what controller to get?

Sorry you missed out on it but like Clutch said, they made lots of trucks so just wait a while and you'll find another. My favorite saying is you gotta make hay when the sun shines. Just make sure your baler and tractor are ready!

Hey Everyone,

Thanks again for all your input on this subject, Clutch was right and we found it this past weekend.

We picked up a 2006 Ford Expedition with 69,000 miles on it and in excellent condition inside and out.

We had a 25+ year Ford Mechanic friend take a look at it (he spent around 3 hours looking over lots of stuff on it) and deemed it to be be worth the asking price, then the dealer took our Envoy for trade and all that came out of my pocket was enough to cover the new 5 year 70,000 additional mile extended warranty for it.

Now we can't wait for our first trip towing over spring break to Mendocino on the Northern California coast.

Thanks again, Ted

Congratulations on the new tow vehicle. It just takes a little patience and the perfect TV for you will show up. With the right equipment towing can be enjoyable.
