This is my go-to for anything OBD diagnostic codes. It maybe something as simple as a buildup of dirt and grime on the cruise switch itself. Before replacing it, maybe remove, clean and reinstall the switch.

I know this is a Dodge post but our old TV, a 2002 Chevy 2500hd w/6.0, would always kick out a code for MAF, mass air flow sensor. Let's say we were headed east, Portola to Reno, stopping at Bordertown for a bite. Within 5 miles of hitting the road the check engine light pops on. No matter how long the first stop was, always the same, whether Reno or Winnemucca. Pull into a park to setup, next start up it would be off... Only happened when towing.

Go figure...

Code Cleared

Thank you to all of you who gave me your insight.
The cruise control code error was caused by faulty rear wheel abs/speed sensors. After I replaced them, the code remained. A day or two later, I disconnected the battery for an hour, and that cleared the code. We took a 700 mile trip. The OBD tool still reads clear; the error code is gone.

I am very grateful that it was not something more involved.
