Reese Hitch for Jay Flight 26bhs

Need a dual cam hitch for new jay flight 26bhs. Hitch weight is 675lbs. and GVWR is 7750 lbs. Should i go with 1200lb hitch or would 800 lb. be enough? We usually load pretty heavy with gear in camper and pick up. Had this type hitch on last camper and liked it.

I have a 2015 26bhs and TW is a little over1000#. I would go with 1200# hitch.

That's what we just bought! I figured that 1200 would be the one. How do you like trailer so far? Just shopping around for hitch set up. We didn't get delivery yet. Does that trailer have 2" ball or larger?

Welcome and congrats on the new rig!!!

The 675lb tw (hitch weight) you posted, is that the manufactures "brochure" dry weight? If so, that does not even include the 2 propane tanks or battery weight on the tongue. Those alone adds ~120 (2-20lb tanks and battery) or ~160lbs (2-30lb tanks and battery) before loading the camper up with food, dishes, clothes, bedding, etc.... Our "brochure" 910lb tw is about 1400lbs loaded, ready to travel.

X2 for the 1200lb bars.

When the dealer sets up the hitch, it is for an empty trailer. There is a very good chance you will need to re-adjust the wdh once you load the trailer up. Here is a link to wdh set up and how a wdh works.

Welcome to JOF

Worst case 2016 26BHS "loaded" scenario @ 7,750lbs would give you a desired "loaded" tongue weight in the 1,008lbs to 1,162lbs range (13% to 15%). I would agree that a WDH rated at 1,200lbs would be ideal.

IMO a 800lb rated WDH would fall short even when loaded moderately under the TT's GVWR............,

Example...., 2016 26BHS moderate-heavy loaded: (5,920lbs published UVW) + (300lbs Factory ship weight delta *) + (75lbs Dealer- battery, etc.) + (700lbs cargo-no fluids) = 6,995lbs

So...., 26BHS @ 6,995lbs = 909lbs to 1,049lbs desired loaded tongue range (13% to 15%)...., 800lb WDH would be under rated.

Bob

* There is a yellow sticker on the TT with the "actual" UVW ship weight from factory..., I used a 300b delta as an assumption.

Welcome!

X4 on the 1200b bars. Dealer installed 800lb bars on our WH, which was only a little heavier than your TT, and they weren't nearly enough.

Hitchseeker.com has the 1200# straight line reese dual cam with hitch shank, everything but the hitch ball for $523.00 free shipping. Seems like good price but will see if dealer will match or beat that price.

We really like the 26bhs. The floor plan is great. Ball size is 2 5/16".
