Silverado 1500 Gas vs Diesel

Question for you all, wondering about everyone’s thoughts on the new 3.0 duramax for towing. Going to test drive that and a 5.3 gas tomorrow and can’t find much info on the duramax. Wondering if it could handle our midsized even (265 rls)

I know a lot of people would suggest a 3/4 ton, and that is where I would like to go, but 0% for 84 months is hard to pass up!

Here's an article from Car and Driver on the GM 3.0 Duramax.

Please don't let that be the determining factor in what truck to buy. Check the door stickers of both trucks. They both may be very capable of "pulling" your trailer and either one or both of them could be grossly incapable of carrying the payload. Best of luck in the truck search.

if you are going 1/2 ton go with the 6.2L ... otherwise depending on your state a 1 ton is cheaper than a 3/4 ton... the only difference is the overload springs... sometimes the 1 tons are even cheaper... they ride the same.. and if you live in certian states the tabs are way cheaper... here it is 10% of the "value" for 3/4 ton and $139/year for one tons... annually... YMMV

It has been my experience you can usually get the same financing or rebates regardless if it is 1500, 2500, or 3500. Ads usually specify 1500 because that is what most people are looking to buy.

Unfortunately that is not the case this go around. The deals in our area aren't even close here for the 3500s. I've been looking for the last couple of weeks and can tell you that this is very regional. The dealer here told me yesterday that they've pulled back on their deals because they only have 14 1500s left and there aren't any coming in because the factory is closed. Unfortunately, that included the 3500 I was trying to deal on. I couldn't even get them to discuss a different price. 125 miles northeast of us, there's plenty of inventory and they are still dealing. However, since they're still under serious lock down, I'm not sure I'm going there.

Did you ever end up taking the test drives? I would be curious to hear your impressions after driving them back to back.
