Silverado 2500HD 6.0/Seasonal

Hi all,
New to the forum here and have done a ton of reading.Wife and I are looking at Jayco fifth wheels, and I have some towing questions with a set of unique circumstances.

We have a seasonal site that is 45 miles from our home - we have done this for 6 years now and love the campground, and the surrounding area. I own a small business so this is convenient for us as we can throw the gear in the truck and head up when I see a window that is convenient for the business. It is really flat terrain. We only bring our RV home when a repair pops up that I can't handle myself. We have brought our current trailer home once in the last 3 years (we can leave the RV onsite during winter).

My current vehicle is a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0 with a 4.10 rear end. it is a 4 x 4 and has a standard bed. Manufacturer tow ratings for fifth wheel is 14,000 lbs. (I know to take that with a grain of salt)

The trailers we are looking at are the Jayco Eagle 291RSTS or the Jayco 321RSTS (UVW's 9685 and 10,075 respectively).

Just wondering if this would be doable - for short hauls. I never take it anywhere else - we see it as more as a cabin/cottage getaway. We have a full hookup site - so we never add water to the tanks and we are allowed outside storage boxes, so things like grills, chairs, etc. are stored in them.

Sorry about the long winded post - just trying to make sure before we leap in.

Should be fine. My TV has a rating of 11,000 lbs, my trailer fully loaded (not including water) comes in around 7500. I can do 65mph all day long on 9% grade sections of our mountain roads. I'd go faster on the interstate but the tires are rated for 65. I think if you give yourself a healthy 3,000 pound cushion, you are fine pretty much anywhere. That's what my somewhat limited experience shows anyway.

You should be fine IMHO. I have a 2013 GMC 2500 HD 6.0L (but with the 3.37 gears) and tow an Eagle HT 29.5BHDS fine. The trailer comes in around 9500# and has a pin weight < 2000#. The available payload on my truck is roughly 2700# so I have a little breathing room. I'd imagine your specs are very close to the same.

Personally I would not hesitate to tow just about any trailer if only moving it once every couple of years. A new gas 2500 will be fine moving any trailer up to about 15,000lbs once a year or less. Some even tow that much trailer regularly with a 3/4 although a bit over weight. A gas 3/4ton may not even be much over weight.

I have the same truck (2013 model) and you should have no problems towing your camper. These trucks are beasts! and can pull just about anything you need.
