T V squat

I know this has probably been discussed plenty of times here but I'd like to know if about 3/4 inch squat on the rear of tow vehicle vs about the same amount of rise on the front end is acceptable? I'm towing a 18 S-RB with a Toyota Taco and using the Equalizer WD system. We've gone about 1000 miles now and I hardly know the trailer is back there. Should I try to make adjustments for this small amount of rear squat or leave well enough alone?

I'd leave that be. 3/4 inch is nothing. You'll only frustrate yourself. Just go by the weight returned to your steer axle verified by a scale visit and seat of the pants. If that's in spec- keep truckin'

If you've measured 3/4" at both front and rear, then I'd be inclined to...

But, it should not be much trouble to raise the L-bracket by one position to transfer more weight to the front wheels and measure the height at the front and rear.
Try it at that position. You might/might not feel an improvement in the towing.

Yes- I didn't put 2 and 2 together when he mentioned the Equal-i-zer brand. The L brackets seem easier to adjust than some other systems to dial it right in.

Love my Equal-i-zer brand hitch! Pulled many trailers many miles... a number of them thru Swift Current, SK by the way!

As mentioned by 'smurfs-of-war' one's TV's front suspension (steer axle) is important, and the amount of rear squat (if any) is a by-product of meeting your front suspension's (returned) weight requirements via the WDH adjustment.

Not all suspensions are created equal, so a CAT visit will confirm what you need to know. Reading front fender heights gets one close, but a scale visit will dial-in any WDH.

I've found in many cases just moving a TV/TT combo 50ft can effect fender height readings, especially the front suspension. Also, many of us check our fender heights without driver/passenger(s) in the TV, the CAT scale takes these added weight placements into consideration.

Bob

Hopefully you made time to swing down to Cypress Hills in your travels through! A little slice of RV heaven just south of the #1 by Maple Creek. That's our main stay every summer

Would adding washers to the hitch head or moving the L brackets up a hole accomplish the same thing on an Equalizer? Which is the preferred method for tuning the hitch?

I copy shamelessly from stuff I find on the web. Not sure of the source or the accuracy - although it seems correct.
Hope this helps:
Three leveling guidelines for Equalizer brand hitch:
1) WD bars return the front of the TV to approximately the same height as it was originally.
2) Hitch head ball height on the shank levels your TT.
3) The tilt of the hitch head changes the angle of the WD bars.

So, if your TT is close to level (or slightly nose down) and your WD bars are roughly horizontal, and you need to transfer more weight to the front of your TV, then adjust the L-bracket one position higher for more tension.
Changing the angle is an option to change the weight transfer, but seems not as easy as changing the L-bracket position.

The OP hasn't followed up to his thread yet, but his original post did state "using the Equalizer WD system". We (myself included) are assuming he is referring to the "Equal-i-zer" brand WDH with integrated sway control...., and not referring to a standard WDH.

I offer this clarification because some folks (or some reading this thread) do refer to standard WDH's as equalizer hitches, equalizer WDH's, etc.. I've even seen WDH spring bars referred to as 'equalizers'.

Good points.

Although I did have 'brand' in my response ,
I should have also spelled the name correctly .

When I was looking for a TT hitch, I recall my confusion with all the inconsistent/incorrect names etc. for WD hitches. Thanks for the clarification.
