Tire pressure

Hi I just put 10 ply tires on my 2013 Silverado 1500 ext cab, I pull a 2015 Jay flight 27RLS. What tire pressure should I run?

I'm no pro but I'd suggest the pressure on the sidewall, maybe a little less depending on the load capacity of the tire vs the trailer weight.

What kind of pressure are they rated for?
I always run at least 50 pounds in the rear tires and at least 45 in the front.
The Michelins I'm running now are rated at 80, although I'm comfortable at 60 all way around.

If your going over 50psi make sure you have high pressure valve stems (metal not rubber)

10 ply tires call for 80 lb. max I believe. I normally run 80 lb. on the drive axle and 70 on the front axle when towing our FW.

If your running empty, run them at what ever the sticker on the door panel states (probably 35psi). The truck has been tested at those pressures and that is where it will handle and stop the best. That being said, I air my tires up to max side wall pressure in the rear when towing. I have load range D BFGoodrich All Terrains on my Tahoe. 65psi in the rear and 50psi in the front. In the winter, its completely oppsite for me as it is used for plowing. So the extra pressure in the front helps support the weight of the plow.

The hardest part about running heavier duty tires in todays vehicles is the tire pressure monitering system wont like the higher pressures. Most likely will throw a light on the dash saying theres a problem. They are programmed to run the pressure on listed on the FMVSS sticker on the door frame panel.

And Edd505 is also correct. You need to make sure you have the correct valve stems for those tires.

Does the 1500 come with Load E tires?

If you know your axle loads, I've seen inflation tables of load vs. pressure - though I can't seem to find it now.

Otherwise, I try to make sure even contact across the tread. Chalk sometimes helps.

For my TV, I generally run the fronts at 70 loaded/unloaded and backs at 60 unloaded/70 loaded. Otherwise I would bounce down the road. Now when I had the TC or a load of stone, the backs would be at 80, but I would be at max payload then.

I have 10 ply (load range E) tires on my truck (Duratracs) and have found through experimentation that they run best at 44psi. They are rated to 80 but I don't find any need to go that high. I may try airing them up to 60 for towing but it already tows so well that I don't see the need.

I have the same truck as you, Running empty, I run 40 psi. Towing I increase to 50 psi cold. The handling of the truck drastically improved switching to the 10 ply tires. Too much "give" in the sidewalls of the "P" tires for my liking.

I run 80 psi on my rear tires and 60 psi on the fronts, just like the sticker in my door pillar recommends. I always replace my tires with tires that have the same rating as the factory tires, because the suspension was designed with those tire ratings in mind.
