To Air Bag or Not To Air Bag
I have been undecided whether to add air bags or not. My truck drops just 2 inches when I hook up, and travels down the road real good. I do not hit the factory jouce bumpers but on a very rare occasion. I just got it in my head that maybe I should raise truck some, and maybe improve the ride even better. But, woudl I get much benefit for the cost involved?
Any comments would be helpful.
Thanks

Start by insuring that your WD is adjusted so that the front fender height measured over the axle is returned to one half of the distance between the unhitched and hitched height. That's the spec for the new Fords.

Bob,
I should clarify, I have a 5th wheel. I have measured at the rear wheel to come up with the 2in drop. Oddly enought when I went over the CAT scale my front axle weighted exactly the same with or without the 5er.
Thanks,
Bob

Go for the Firestone Ride Rite airbags...you'll love them as I do! I just installed a pair and run 20 psi whether I'm towing or not. The truck ride has stiffened up BARELY and my axle wrap issue has all but disappeared.

My truck is still under warranty.
Being that you have to cut off the rubber bump stops to install the Ride Rites, would this void the warranty in any way?

Have the Ride Rites with the on board compressor and dual valve setup. Our F250 handles the pin weight fine but putting 35-40 psi in the bags improves the ride a great deal especially on less than ideal road surfaces. Would do it again.

I have Firestone bags on our Dodge 3500. Empty I run with 5 lbs. When I hook up the trailer I air them back to the stock empty height, Then I use the WDH bars. The ride is good and I don't get high beamed at night nearly as much.

To Air Bag or Not To Air Bag
have you thought of Timbrens?
no messing with air, no leaking, install and forget about it.
They do not change the unloaded ride at all.
Love mine!

I am no expert by any means but if you are getting beamed at night does that indicate that you're WDH is not SPEC'ed in properly??
I do not know. I am just asking.

No, because the purpose of WD is not to make the truck sit level, it's to return needed weight to the front axle. The WD can be adjusted correctly and the truck still have sag in the rear which would raise your headlight beam.. That's a separate issue and can be addressed with helper springs or bags. The fact that the truck might happen to sit level does not mean the WD is adjusted correctly.

I installed Firestone bags on my truck. Ride is completely different, 110% better. You do have to remove the factory bump stops. You don't cut them off though, they simply unbolt and it won't void your warranty.
