tow 184bh w/ ford ranger?

Does anyone have any experience towing a 184BH with a Ford Ranger ? (4wd_4Litre_5 speed stick)

I am picking up a new 184BH in April and wondering if I need a new truck.

Thanks

**** in N.H.

That is a hard question to answer. If the Ranger is still factory stock, I would recommend looking in your owner’s manual or call Ford with your vin #. I had a 94’ with the optional 4 banger with a manual transmission; Ford stated it was not recommended to tow with it, but I got 30 mpg. If I recall correctly, the owner’s manual stated with the correct setup you could tow up to 6K pounds. If I was a betting man, I would say that was for a 2 wheel drive, standard cab, with the correct rear end gear ratio.

The 184BH, has a gross vehicle weight rating of 3500 lbs, so it just might.

My Rnger is a 2001, 4WD, 4 Liter with a 5 speed stick. The 184BH weghs 2800 and rated for 3500 #.
My Rnanger is rated for 3,100#. I'm wondering if I need to trade for an automatic transmission.

Welcome to JOF

Based on the information supplied thus far, IMO your TV will exceed one, or more of it's specified weight limits as you load the 184H for camping. Please note that the Ranger's published tow rating of 3,100lbs is based on the "curb weight" of the vehicle.

One's personal loading habits also comes into play, what works for one may not work for another with the same TV/TT combination.
