Tow/haul mode

Hello
Do you use the tow/haul mode on your class A when towing a car? Or just leave in drive without any assistance?
Thanks, Roger

It's a feature on many vehicles...I've never used it. With a Class A gas motor I would use it in the mountains or hilly terrain if you feel it struggling. ..otherwise just out it in drive.

I use it for downhill braking assist as it will downshift sooner if you hold the brake for a second or two. I can come off of Mt Hood without using the service brakes. I use it the same way if towing.

Thank you. I’ve never used it and was wondering if I should. Towing a car behind rig and haven’t had a problem. Makes sense to use on up and down hills. Thank you for the input.

I don't know about using it on a motor home, but I always use tow haul when towing my slightly overweight Pinnacle! I have nearly 24,000 miles on my 5er and the brakes still have at least 70% left on the pads. Same with my RAM 3500 with 63,000 miles on it.

I use it in mountainous areas/steep grades to keep the engine braking up high. Otherwise it will just start coasting and I'll have too much speed and possibly burn up the brakes going down. Uphill grades I'll use it to maintain a lower gear to maintain decent speed up. Generally only hitting it when I see grade signs for tractor trailers.

Tow haul mode in addition to the brake assist feature for many vehicles also tells the transmission to stay in a gear longer which helps reduce "lugging" on the transmission and therefore generally keeps the transmission temp cooler. It is recommended to use it when towing. I use tow haul on my truck if I'm traveling without a trailer but on a road with a lot of hills.
